Caffe Vergnano 1882

Well I have used Cafe vergnano before and it's a cafe where you will receive attention and service when it's quiet. However on a busy Friday night I had to deal with a manager who seemed to not want to give us a table for 2 and rejected us and then herded 4 people behind us onto the table whilst pulling spare chairs to use.
I said what about serving us he actually said go away. Obviously serving 2 instead of 4 is more profitable. I asked him for a business card and he forced it into my hand just to add to the sense of not being welcome. Then he pushed us out. I suggest you go elsewhere for coffee!!!

I have been here several times for coffee with friends. The coffee and hot chocolate is the best I've ever had so would definitely recommend it. The service on the other hand is absolutely terrible and the manager in particular is shocking, very hot tempered and rude as previous reviewers have mentioned. I could only recommend going here for coffee as it is nice, reasonably priced (compared to Starbucks etc) and you only need to be served twice (once for your order and once for the bill).
Keep in mind my scores are based on coffee and not stopping here for food.

My parents had recommended this restaurant. Clearly the effects of old age are affecting their judgement. We had a truly awful, overpriced meal - nearly £10 for a melon/parma ham starter, and over £15 for most of the main courses which were very disappointing - particularly considering the poor quality of the meat. The service was also pretty dreadful - the waiting staff seemed totally disinterested - it's all very well not writing down the order, but when you forget to process two of the items ordered by a table of only four people, it's a pretty poor effort.

Although this is a nice venue and the service was friendly, the food was mediocre and overpriced. With starters at around £10 and main courses at £15 upwards (apart from the pasta) we would have expected a lot more - Stick to the coffee and hot chocolate offerings. I would not recommend it as a restaurant.

My boyfriend and I went to the Caffe on the Southbank before a performance at the Royal Festival Hall. The service was absolutely atrocious. The food took ages to come (we waited for over half an hour and then paid and left), no one stopped by our table to see if we wanted something more to drink, there was no focaccia bread (they ran out?). After waiting for over half an hour for our food, we asked for the bill and the manager (hot tempered) argued with us and eventually we paid without eating and left. I even had the service (which was included in the bill) removed because it was that bad.

went last night for dinner and was sorely disappointed. The milanese looked and tasted like it had been deep fried. service dreadful. room looks very nice though, and expresso was very nice.
