My friend and I had a meal at the Indali lounge on 16 -08-10. I’m sorry to say that the masala in the food were severely under-cooked. One could not only taste the half cooked spiced but also smell it. We shall not go there any more even if someone paid for it.

We visited very early on a Thursday so the restaurant was fairly quiet but that was to be expected considering the time. Service was very good and attentive.

Food wasn't your average Indian (heavy curries etc), and very interesting. The flavours were fantastic and I was impressed by the food combinations and the concept behind the dishes.

Perhaps I did have low expectations because of the reviews but I really did enjoy the food and would recommend it for a different Indian restaurant experience. Would also go back if I had the chance.

Last night, 6 May 2010, I was invited to a meal to Indali Lounge, the restaurant was very modern in it's decor, the lighting perhaps too intimate as we struggled to read the menu in the muted light and the music made us think we were in a club that needed people to get up and dance to the heavy beat instead of an ambient level of, perhaps Indian, music that people did not have to shout over.

We were greeted by complimentary by bite size poppadums with chutneys and mint sauce. Once we made our orders we were given an amuse bouche of lentil soup and a spiced mushroom, however my soup was cold whereas everyone else's was piping hot! It was quickly taken away and was replaced with a hot version.

We had starters, I did not hear of any complaints from my companions and my 3 Way Paneer was a delight.

I was truly disappointed with the portion size of the main meal, I thought the waiter had made a mistake by bringing me another starter when I ordered Butter Chicken and the rice - probably 3 spoons worth - that came with it wasn't enough to even soak up the sauce! My companions were very aware at the size of the portions we were given but complimented on the quality of the food, I can't fault the quality as it was very tasty but totally disappointed by the quantity and by the price they demanded for it. We left the restaurant still feeling hungry!

Having seen this restaurant advertised on many buses, I gave it a try (yes advertising does work!).

Give this place a miss. It thinks it is alot a better than it is, and no amount of classy decor will make up for bland food. A friend and I had supposedly different dishes from the main menu and they both came with an almost identical bland sauce. So I certainly agree Ben Cowen, who has left the comment about the "samey-ness" with the food. (Maybe we made the exact same selections, I don't know, but I'm not going back to see if any other menu items do or don't come with the same non-descript sauce.)

Having read reviews about Indali on this site after eating there, I agree with all the negative reviews, they seem true to my experience. Beware!

We arrived at 7.30pm and were greeted by the two very sweet ladies on reception and swiftly shown to the bar and ordered a cocktail. Both drinks were expertly made, delicious, really cold and tasted exactly how they should. The bar had a very relaxed feel to it and is a lovely way to start an evening at Indali Lounge.

Once asked we were whisked straight over to our table and the restaurant looked great, nearly full and buzzing with a nice group of people all enjoying their evening. Lots of the staff made an effort to say hello to us which was also very nice and a very good sign. Our waiter for the evening was an extremely knowledgeable chap and talked us through the menu and made sure we got everything promptly.

To start we chose really very well with a Chaat baked Aloo Tike, that was one of our best dishes and packed full of flavor and punch and again not at all low fat tasting but completely delicious. The Paneer Three Ways was also good, nice and hot which works well with this mellow cheese. Our final starter was a Bombay Chicken Samosa and when it arrived this had been substituted for a Samosa Deli for some reason although this was also good if a little mild after the much appreciated heat from the Paneer. We both really loved the Poppadoms and the completely addictive chutneys and yoghurt that go with them, I wish they were the same everywhere.

On to our main courses and again we ordered a very different type of meal to the last time with the exception of the butter chicken which we just had to have again and yet again this dish delivered. The Madras Soft-shell Crab Bhuna was a great dish with such defining textures and flavors but also subtle spices and flavors enhanced the delicate soft shell crab meat without over powering the dish. The Lobster Bombay Dreams is a luxuriously comforting combination of the sweet subtle meat infused with a lovely silky mildly spiced creamy sauce, very decadent and again hard to believe this is a very low fat dish. Our chili and garlic naan was sublime as before as was the well cooked rice and a wonderful side-dish of Indali Bhartha, sweet and spicy slow roasted aubergine with a good kick of ginger and chili.

Just writing this is making my mouth water and my stomach rumble but as always with Indali Lounge we left feeling none of the normal bloated feeling that one often gets with Indian food.

Best indian restuarant I had ever been to.

Amazing decor (a perfect mix of traditional indian comtemporary and modern western comportment).

We were greeted by two lovely ladies at the reception who showed us the way to the most stunning bar and lounge where we saw one of widest range of beautifully desinged cocktail menu. Bar men were very knowledgeable and polite and made wonderful cocktails for us. Loved the indali Mohito and the Organic Pomegranate wine!

We were then moved to the dinner table where we were served the most mouth watering , deliciously appetizing soups and starters. We were amazed to see Chicken tikkas made in green herbals spices unlike the red coloured hot tikkas you get in most other Indian restaurants. Crispy soft shell crab was by far the best crab we had ever tasted. The main course was also very scrumptious and in good portions....the best I would say was the “butter chicken with butter and Goa fish curry”. Breads were very fresh and soft. These were the softest Naans me and my wife had ever seen.

Deserts were light and exceptionally good.

Hard to believe healthy food can taste so good. We felt so light after having a full three course Indian meal!

Overall-. Great Idea, great effort and great execution.

Appetisers - The Chicken Tikka starter was sent back twice for being too salty. - We then gave up. The Chicken Samosa was ok - average

Entrees - The Fish curry was luke warm at best - tasted like it was sitting out for a day - Ate one mouthful and decided not to eat. The Chicken Curry - didnt eat any as by this stage my girlfriend was starving. Tandori Naan - Was burnt on the underneath - ate one mouthful

Drinks - £3.50 for 750cl water found a little steep but was willing to pay as part of the dinner. £2.00 for a coke with 10 ml of coke and 15 ice cubes again little frustrating. £1.80 for Mint Tea which was water with 1 mint leaf in - Need I say more - Masala zone at least puts in a few mint leaves

Service - Was ok apart from when I said i was disgusted by the food and was told "you still have to pay for the drinks but dont worry about the service charge - very good of you - I didnt pay for the drinks in the end - Feel free to send the debt collectors round

Staff - No real complaints other than above. Manager was helpful/friendly and seemed embarassed - agreed that I didnt have to pay for drinks - little choice as I was walking away from his restaurant at that time on the way to Mcdonalds

Verdict - Wouldnt come back there in a million years - You can advertise on every bus in Britain but with food like that will not be a success

Maybe caught you on a bad night but not the best first impression.
