Sad to read about the bad experience below! I can only assume this was an off day because Puji Puji is our local and we have always had great meals there. My wife is from Penang and so she can tell if some dishes are not exactly authentic but most please her very much especially the rendang and rice dishes like nasi goreng and lemak. I love the sambal squid, very hot and fiery, and rojak salad. We recommend to anyone local to give it a try.

This is the true review! I read the reviews on this website before going to Puji Puji and was very excited by what I read.
I also went on the restaurants own website to check out the menu. When I arrived there i was given a menu that was completely different to that on their own website. I told the waiter that the menu on their website was different, I was told that I must have looked at a wrong website.
15 minutes later another couple came to restaurant and also mentioned that the menu was different on their website. Surely we both didn’t look up the wrong website.
When our food arrived the presentation was very poor and so was the taste.
I’m shocked by the other reviews they are so far from the truth!

A couple of points before you come here: 1) Bring your own bottle. 2) No credit cards
Okay, now that's out of the way, this is a great restaurant. I agree with the other reviewers here. The food really was quite close to the real thing. Satay was excellent. Mi Goreng too. Only observation was that the beef rendang was a bit tough, but the taste was right there.
The interior reminded me of a couple of restaurants I've visited in Penang, so I was quite taken in by the theme. It's a bit small, though. Not that this is anyone's fault. I hear this place can get quite crowded at the normal busy times. I went on a school night, so this wasn't a problem.
As for value - given that there are basically no drinks charges, you get a pretty low bill. The fact that you can take your own bottle is both great value for the customer and very flexible. If you forget wine, there is a shop just outside that will cover you.
The lack of credit card facilities is a bit annoying, but not a major problem, as there is a cash machine just outside.
I wish this restaurant were closer to me, as I would go back very soon. Regardless, it's on my shortlist. Highly recommended.

One of the best Malaysian restaurants in london (coming from a Malaysian), friendly staff but make sure you book as the likelihood of getting a table as a walk in customer for dinner is slim. The only downfall of the food is the portions are slightly too small. I've come home an hour after eating a starter, main and dessert and i am hungry again!!!
Must try the home made layer cakes on the counter!
Great value for money and it's great for bigger groups as you can BYOB with no corkage.

Puji Puji provides the real taste of Malaysian homecooking. I don't really miss Malaysian food whenever I'm in London because of the Puji Puji's menu. I tried all Malaysian restaurants in London and in brief I can tell you Puji Puji is the best.

BEST SATAY IN LONDON! Properly cooked and marinaded, with the authentic 'malaysian' taste, good satay sauce. 6 of us had Sunday lunch. Roti and Murtabak totally spot on! I had the Assam Laksa - deliciously home made (could rival my cousin's!). Other dishes ordered included Chilli Chicken (be warned it is H.O.T!), Lamb curry, Chicken Curry. Coconut pancake dessert was a hit but personally i couldn't get enough of the banana with icecream dessert. Service was also very good, its BYO which is always a bonus. We had a few bottles of Corona and the the waiter automatically brought us some sliced lime - nice touch. My background is Malaysian and the family cooks all these sort of dishes so sincere compliments to the Chef!

My husband and I went to Puji Puji for dinner as we remembered the charcoal grilled satays they used to make in Oriental City. It is as good as ever. The satay sauce was so good that I had to buy a jar of it so that when I get my hunger pangs for some nasi himpit with Satay sauce, at least I have a good satay sauce to go with it. A jar of this good stuff cost £3.99 (well worth every penny). We had the chicken satay (which came with the usual fresh cucumber, onions and nasi himpit) and satay sauce. Tucked into some beautiful roti canai with chicken curry. Also had proper tauhu sumbat with the satay sauce. Everything was just wonderfully piquant and delicious. Our mains were the asam laksa and mee goreng. They were both spicy (some fellow Malaysians may want to seek this out) and the asam laksa had too much otak udang. But other than that, they were okay. They have a selection of desserts and we had some kek lapis. All washed down with teh tarik, iced milo and limau drinks. The total bill (which comes without service charge) is £44, not bad value for money at all. The portions were generous, not overly large, just right. The decor was tastefully planned out and seating was not cramped at all. Good music, lively and not too loud. We will definitely return for the satay and roti canai as we really enjoyed those. Service was good, with two waiters able to help you decide what you want to eat and they make good ice milo plus really frothy teh tarik (just like in a mamak stall). I would say if you want a pleasant evening meal out with friends and a touch of adventure, do try this charming little Malay restaurant tucked away near Dalston.

Seemed a good place when it first opened, the food was pretty good and the staff were warm and hospitable, however, on the last two occasions the food was inconsistent, a ropey rendang and a flabby, flavourless vegetarian kway teow come to mind, and to top it off the staff seem annoyed that we were paying to be there. The young guy's ego in particular has inflated over time, I think he thinks he's a diva. Sub-standard food and staff that think they're above the people that keep them open doesn't float my boat, so I won't be going back.
