No. 1 City Road

I recently found myself around the Finsbury Square area of London city later in the evening after a business meeting and having a strong desire to eat some red meat I was lucky enough to find No 1 City Road Bar and Grill. On walking in I discovered a quite busy bar but a quiet eating space, this usually deters me but I was there so I thought, why not. I was extremely glad that I did. The steak I ordered was cooked to perfection and the quality of meat outstanding. I also liked their house cut thick chips which were nice and crispy but far from greasy. I finished off with a very rich warm brownie and salty caramel ice cream and again was more than impressed. I can certainly recommend No 1 City Road as it ticks all boxes for a night of dining out.

My partner who works in the City made a booking for Fri evening. The restaurant was very slow, lacked any ambience and we felt like we eating in a fishbowl. Staff were friendly, food barely above acceptable and certainly not worth the amount charged. Very average over all.

We had our company departmental xmas meal at No.1 city road. The reservation was for 13 people. The service we received was excellent, the food was superb and all 13 of us had an excellent and very enjoyable evening. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and will certainly be coming back myself personally and would rebook again for any future group/company bookings.

Booked a table for 5 for a business lunch at No1 City Road last week after running out of local restaurants that we hadn't been to.
All 5 of us came out having very much enjoyed the food, enjoyed the ambience and rating the customer service very highly indeed.
The food was cooked perfectly, presented nicely and was the right temperature - it was served by very courteous staff who looked after us well throughout our visit.
The atmosphere wasn't what I would call buzzing as it was quiet (bearing in mind this was a mid-week lunchtime) but that's to be expected given the current economic climate and everyone cutting back on expenses. I would expect that to improve when the place gathers more of a reputation - which I'm sure it will if it keeps doing the basics right; clean, good food and quality service.
Would recommend.

I am growing old working in the city. Although, i have 15 years to retire. I have been to No1 City Road on 3 occasions since the opening. At all times i have had great service by always cheerful and welcoming staff whose names i do not know. I have had the best steaks after a long while. I i also brought my respectable clients who shared the same opinion. I have another lunch planned for next week (business meeting). My experience at No1 City Road has been fantastic. Complements to the staff. To sum up i am also taking my team (56 of us) for X-Mas lunch at No1 City Road. X-Mas menu seem very very exiciting.
Unfortunately, i have to disagree with Mr Stefan Basiuk on all counts. No1 City Road looks sweet and simple and not like some places where they subtitutes staff personality with decors which becomes heavy to the eyes.
Mr Basiuk must have ordered a Bt of wine at £60 and find it all too expensive. I can only sympathasise with him. Further, if one spend £91 in a 2 star michelin restaurant "The Square" i would start worrying. Nothing is perfect in life and that includes any business. There is always room to improve but so far well done City Road.
I would recommend City Road to anyone.

I very much enjoyed the food and the service was excellent, the decor was clean but it looked like it needed more as there were no pictures. I will be going again as the food was very good.

Great site, sadly the design is non descript and could have come out of a flat box !
The food is massively expensive for very average food, we had a bottle of wine, and main course and shared a dessert, came to £91, put that into context if you went to The Square on Bruton St, 2 star Michelin you would pay less.
I'm afraid I cant see it opening past a year.
