Cammasan Oriental Riverside Restaurant

I had often walked past Cammasan en route to either Strada, Wagamama or Ha-Ha's for dinner with friends as Charter Quay and the riverside is generally where we go in Kingston for a relaxed evening meal. I finally managed to get a friend of mine to try Cammasan with me - a friend who I nearly always end up in Wagamamas with. And we haven't gone back since!
The waiting staff were exceedingly helpful and didn't mind me quizzing them about the menu - they were even happy to offer their personal opinion on the dishes - something I find to be very rare amongst the unenthusiastic waiting staff that seem to populate restaurants now-a-days.
The menu itself boasts alot more than the usual pad thai's or yaki soba's in its noodle section, as well as having extensive other choices for those that don't noodles, or rice even - the salads looked as attractive as anything else on the menu, again something I never see in restaurants.
The food itself was very good, as was the delicate presentation - you can actually taste the spices and herbs that they list on the menu. For the quality of the cooking, as well as portion size, the price is almost unbelievabley reasonable.
All in all I strongly advise anyone who is bored of Wagamama's, or just looking for a nice restaurant with a relaxed, friendly, smiling attitude to visit Cammasan.

A must try restaurant serving malay, chinese and thai dishes on the ground floor. On the upper floor, it serves traditional Chinese dishes in trendy decor and attentive service. Try to book the tables overlooking the river. great views. On a sunny day, you can dine on the terrace. A great place for all ages of the family and for all ocassions......
Try it out, we are regulars now since we moved into Kingston 2 years ago.

Great oriental eating place by the river. It is opposite the new Kingston Theatre opening in October 2007 and behind Wagamama. Can not wait to see the theatre to open.
Noodle soups, fried dishes and all curry dishes are well presented. Service is good, especially with young children.
It has down stairs and upstairs. Must try dish is Laksha and Chilli fillet beef noodle soup.
Forget waiting for Wagamama, this is a much betetr place. Forget the brand stuff

A great restaurant a noodle bar and a formal restaurant on the upper floor with many interesting authentic dishes:wok fried shredded chicken crispy noodle, beef in black bean sauce with ho fun...yummy.Remined me of back home in hong kong and better.
I tried uppper chinese restaurant, again, would go back again with my family as the lobster with ginger and spring onions with a bed of noodle was really good. Better than soho up in london.
So far, this si the best chinees in kingston and the vicinity, try it for yourself.
They gave us the xmas menu already and even with a 15% card for the whole of jan 2007!!!!
try it out....and let me know on your feed backs.

We are regulars at this lovely restaurant. Downstairs is great for a quick one-dish lunch, while upstairs is good for a selection of dishes to share in the evening. Service is good and staff are friendly. Menu changes regularly. Try this as an alternative to the crowded and samey Wagamama around the corner.
We have taken baby several times - although because of the bench-style seating you need to bag the end of the table or one outside to accommodate a highchair.

This is an excellent and best Chinese restaurant in Kingston. We have been to many restaurants in the locality and Soho. The standard is always excellent. With the lovelysunny weather, sitting on the terrace is a greatway to have a Chinese. Try it out. The price is very reasonable, I think, they can charge abit more, I would still go as the standard is high.
I am in agreement with last entry, forget Waggamama as their food is bland and no where near as good as Cammasan.
I have been to the upstairs, is very morden and comfortable with great views over looking the creek and river Thames.....dont miss this place, a worth a trip.

Just moved to Kingston and discovered this place.
Excellent for light meal or if you are hungry!! Quick and friendly service and reasonably priced. Not been upstairs yet but will give it a go soon.
Great, especially when compared to the similar Wagamammas around the corner, that usually has queues into the street!!
Come here instead!

The last enrty seems very odd? I have been eating at this place for the past 2 years. Every meal had been excellent, never bad a meal or service. I guess, this diner either had a bad day at work, or, had his team had lost the game! Perhaps, got the memories all wrong! Cammasan is by far the best restaurant in Kingston and neraby. My family had many meals in Soho and other parts of the world, some of the wok fried soft or crsipy noodle, lobsters, salt and pepper ribs, and etc is even better than Hong Kong. I do mean that as I am a local Chinese resident now based in UK. I totally agree with all the previous entries that Cammasan is by far much better than Wagamama. Forget about Wagga as their food is too bland and no wokhey(cook with passion).Guess, if you like ready meals or processed food, Wagga is the one for you!!
Could not tolerate the bad entry like the last one! Agree with Alex and Sunil... anyway, you guys should TRY Cammasan to proof me wrong. Being a Chinese customer, I know what I am talking about. Hey, dimsum is very good, better than Soho, I really that. Choices are limited but the standard is excellent.
Great place for kids too as the staff will always ensure the kids get a sweet when you depart....

Don't bother with the restaurant upstairs. They can't wait to pour out the wine and take the bottle away. Ribs are full of fat. Take the plates away while you are still eating. Take-away food. Forget it.
