what the critics say

Sunday, May 16, 2010 - Inamo's shtick is an interactive menu. Pictures of menu items are projected on to the table in front of you. You order your food. It arrives. What larks...With all these bells and whistles, most of the food is about as good as it needs to be. It succeeds best with the smaller dishes and when it sticks to the Japanese end of the Asian repertoire, the one exception being long-braised honey-roasted spare ribs in XO sauce. We liked slices of seared wild boar rolled around asparagus and enoki mushrooms.

TimeOut

Charmaine Mok - 3/6

Thursday, October 09, 2008 - For the most unsociable of diners, Inamo is the ultimate experience whipped straight out of cyberspace. Interaction between diner and waiting staff is virtually eliminated by way of individualised computer screens set into the tables and projected by giant, silkworm-like monstrosities looming above diners' heads; staff cruise about, stopping only to plonk down the desired dishes.

Went tonight with my friend, looking forward to some good Asian food with a fun interactive ordering system.

Told repeatedly on the phone when they called to confirm our booking, 90 mins max for the table, turns out we would not need 30!!

The girl serving us was atrocious to say the least, and the idea is minimal interaction as it is. But she would ask one of us if we wanted something, like soya sauce or something and then before asking the other diner, she would walk off and then totally forget what we had asked for anyway!!

FOOD - OMG awful, terrible in quality and don't make me laugh for quantity, I should have sent it back, the smallest sushi rolls i have EVER seen for almost 10 quid each, and they were not even tasty. Just a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE place. AVOID . We left and ate proper food of good quantities next door in soho.

I urge you not to go

I was left greatly disappointed at my last visit. I booked a table over the week for 10 people and I received various forms to fill in in order to confirm the booking and also informing me of a £8 per person booking fee and a few other cancellation policies. What they failed to mention is that they do NOT actually have a table for 10 people hence our party was shown 3 different tables to sit on. When we asked why would they book 10 people when they can not be accommodated in the same table, their staff's response was that 'we should have been told' and that ' their biggest table could only sit 6'. Now, that's helpful! They had every opportunity of telling me this either by email or over the phone. We also found that half the cocktail's list was off menu and we were told that we had 30 minutes to order before the kitchen closed. I would have never chosen Inamo should I've known that I would have to sit away from my guests or advice them to order quickly upon arrival. I suspect the staff are putting their greedy 12.5% tip prospect before their customer's comfort.

BEEF drowning in a pool of grease ....................................

Better was chicken wrapped in shiso leaves, a delightful interpretation of Vietnamese bo la lot (grilled beef in 'betel leaves'), served with plenty of mint, coriander and lettuce and a side of chilli sauce.

Mains, however, suffered from inflated prices and miniature portions. The hot stone rib eye was laughable - a munchkin-sized sponge of beef atop a soap-sized 'hot' plate that didn't actually manage to 'cook the beef to [our] liking' - fortunately, we do like our steak still mooing, and the kitchen has since admitted to the stone not working as well as they'd hoped.

Marinated quail (singular) was finger-licking good, though poorly matched with plum wine-poached nashi pear that managed to emulate the sickly taste of cotton candy.

An evening that had started on a high note with amusement and accomplished starters ended up leaving us unsated and unsatisfied, pining for some more substantial grub in a nearby Soho greasy spoon

Pig Pig's Corner

Pig Pig's Corner

Tuesday, June 29, 2010 - 'Wagyu Bavette': Perfectly grilled on the outside for a slightly charred surface while the inside remains juicily pink, this was a great main to eat. I wasn't convinced about the marbling of the wagyu, but the beef strips had a great natural beefy taste, nicely augmented by the light soy based sauce...Not much to complain about really. The food all had strong vibrant flavours and there wasn't a lot wrong with most of it. I certainly enjoyed almost all the stuff placed in front of me and I would be more than happy to visit Inamo again.

A Girl Has To Eat

A Girl Has To Eat

Monday, December 08, 2008 - I had come to Inamo on the promise of a gimmick, so I had no expectations of the food, but the food was on the whole good and tasty. Chef Alexander Ziverts, previously of Cocoon, Eight Over Eight and E&O, showcased an almost perfect rendition of a Nobu-esque black cod in miso sauce. The fish was soft, delicate and succulent, and the sauce was rich and think and slightly sweetened. But as part of a £20 set menu served with edamame, a sashimi salad, crispy tofu, rice and miso soup the individual portions were rather small.
