I'm very surprised I'm having to write Petrus a negative review, we had such great expectations of this restaurant seeing all the wonderful experiences we've had at Gordon's other restaurants, in particular Boxwood Cafe, Maze, Claridges and of course Restaurant Gordon Ramsay.

From the moment we walked in you could cut the atmosphere with a knife, it took a good 20 mins for the atmosphere to feel relaxed. The maitre'd Jean Philipe did not visit our table and welcome us once in the 3 hours we were there celebrating my wifes birthday.

The food was okish, again disappointing and forgettable unlike Gordon's other restaurants.

We may go back and give them another chance but then again we may not.

We visited Petrus on Tuesday 15th July to celebrate my partners birthday. It was absolutely amazing! From the moment we arrived we were waited on hand and foot. The restaurant was fairly busy for a tuesday but there were so many staff circulating around front of house that we didnt have to wait for anything that we wanted!

We went for the tasting menu (£90 each) and it was well worth it. I'm normally a very fussy eater only eating mainly chicken but enjoyed the likes of Fois Gras, Quail, Scallops and Pigeon! I have never tasted anything like it!

We also paid some extra money to have cheese and crackers and also chocolates from the bonbon trolley - it was also well worth paying the extra money for these!

It was a very enjoyable experience that we will both always remember! Especially as Jean Pierre from the F word was our waiter! I would highly recommend it to anyone!

We celebrated my wife’s 60th birthday at Petrus on Saturday 12 July 2008, our 3 hour experience will remain in our memory for ever. Food (taster menu including a special birthday dessert) cooked to perfection, Service immaculate yet providing a relaxed atmosphere and Jean-Philipe the delightful maitre’d charming and friendly. Finally a kitchen tour to meet Marcus Wareing who signed a menu completed the perfect birthday occasion.

Cannot believe that the 2 previous reviewers were at the same restaurant but as they say there’s now’t as queer as folk.

£100 for 3 courses. Oscietra caviar tea smoked mackerel and duck egg tart. Norfolk suckling pig cooked for twenty four hours, braised chicory, pommes mousseline. Peanut Parfait Valrhona chocolate mousse, salt caramel jelly, raspberry crème.

I enjoyed the high calibre cooking and the attention to detail but somehow didn't enjoy the evening. Can't put my finger on it. Was it the showiness of it all, was it the super difficult reservations that slightly annoyed me off before i arrived, was it the wine waiter with attitude, was it.........

I think I should stay away from this kind of hotel restaurant. I don't like all the fuss, I don't like the other diners and I find more and more I don't like this rich and over the top French style of food. Sorry to be a lone voice.......

Very good food. Did not feel at all rushed. Friendly staff - one even recognised my friend when he dined at Claridges a few weeks later! Will go again.

Found the food a little too fussy and was blotted by its richness. Good but not my style!

booked a table and was told all they had was 10:30pm. i asked if this would upset the kitchen as i wanted to have the ful experience and didn't mind rebooking and waiting for another table so as not to be rushed. was told it was not a problem.

arrived on the day at 10:10. taken straight through to the table where the proceeded to bring bread, amuse guelle, our champagne, and our starter with in minutes of each other. (we still were looking through the wine list). I asked the lady if they were in a rush and thing reverted to normal after that , but i was by that point a bit hot under the collar and it didn't help to enjoy the experience. the food itself was nothing short of fantastic, but a miserly portion i felt in each course. desserts were genius and the bon bon trolley the star of the show. i didn't feel this made up for the rude sommelier (who actually laughed at our wine choice before explaining that he didn't have it).

overall for the money there are better places to go in london, but once again i do have to say that the cooking was of an extremely high standard. won't be going back

Went to Petrus on Friday 9th May and had an amazing night. I was expecting something spectacular from Marcus and his team and i wasn't disappointed. The restaurant setting is perfect. Ample space to spread out and decorated to a very high standard.

The Taster menu was a truly gastronomic experience. Every course was a delight on the taste buds. The staff ratio was almost one to one ensuring that your every need was catered for. All the dishes were beautifully described by the staff with eloquence and enthusiasm.

I was delighted by the quality of the vast cheese board. I was treated like Royalty from beginning to end and thoroughly enjoyed having my every need taken care of. The melt in the mouth chocolates, given on leaving, were some of the finest i have ever tasted.

This chef has a very special talent and will be in demand for a long time to come.

Thank You to Marcus and his staff.

Well worth a visit but book well in advance to avoid disappointment.
