Had a group booking for this venue, very good food and service plausible. The menu was good, reflects various regions of india. P.s the dietary information was very nice (chillies rich in vitamin c) lol.

I been to Shikara and have been going since I discovered it year go. I must say it was a good find. Curry houses vary from places to places, It all depends on the fresh herbs and spices used, And you certainly can taste that with shikara. Being of Indian origin shikara has certainley brought India closer to home.

I am amazed and stunned by all of these good reviews for this restaurant. I can only conclude that people have very different palates because this is the oddest tasting indian I have ever been in. Their solution to 'tasty' indian food appears to be tons of ghee and even more sugar. The food was so sweet I just could not eat it. I love indian food and I go regularly to well regarded places like Lahore Kebab House on Commercial Road, a couple of places on Brick Lane (although it is variable there) and if I feel like a posher night out, Chutney Mary's in Chelsea. The starters were fine but all of the main dishes we ordered - butter chicken, 2 lamb dishes, mixed vegetables and matter paneer were al sickly sweet. I was told they did it that way because it sells, but Indian people complain about the sweetness too! They made us a sugar free lamb curry on the house but it was still clagged up with far too much ghee Never mind the taste I would never go back just for the sake of my health! The huge menu should have rang alarm bells - you just cannot make all of those dishes properly - and they don't. Apart from the sweetness the butter chicken tasted like no butter chicken I have ever had - coconut-ish in flavour - the waiter said it was almonds and yes you can put almonds in a butter chicken but this tasted like sweet coconut. Basically if you love chicken tikka masala you may like the food here - but if you are looking for indian food and any savoury flavour at all in the main dishes you will be wasting your time. This sickly sweet food is simply an insult to the cuisine.

Even though i live in Norway, i have been a regular since 2006, making at least two visits every time i visit London (which would be 2-4 times a year). Have tried several other indian resturants here in London (as that is my favourite cuisine), but none of them really come close. Even the papadums is blast. Friendly and excellent service and absolutely magnificent food.

Excellent value and quality. I go often, and the staff do their best to treat regulars well. Very accommodating to special requests. And as someone else has noted, they cook every dish from scratch.

Really nice. A bit slow between poppadoms and main course, but I think that reflects the fact the food is actually cooked from scratch rather than made identikit. Good value and very tasty with friendly service.
