Godot's Bistro

disappointing experience at Godot's. This place looks so inviting from the outside, and the atmosphere inside is very nice - a bit on the small side and at the back they do pack 'em in but in general it has a lovely brasserie atmosphere. Shame the same can't be said for the food - it was unfortunately like ordering from a 70s menu. The prawns in the prawn cocktail were clearly defrosted (and tiny) with thousand island dressing from a jar poured on top. I was really looking forward to the penne with chicken, chorizo, sundried tomato and chill, but another disappointment. Huge, overdried lumps of chicken, small clumps of chorizo, no sign of sundried tomatoes and a tinned tomato sauce. Its such a shame, we were really looking forward to eating here. Granted we ordered off the special menu, and it does look as if Godot's has a lunch menu that might be better - we will give it another go but Chingford nowadays has lots of competition for fresh, tasty food and places to eat so its unlikely this will become a favourite.

This is my favourite Chingford restaurant. It's got a great atmosphere, and the food is always good. I've been going with my friends for over 30 years.

I eat here a lot as it's local to me. Good atmosphere, good food and wine at reasonable prices, what more can you ask for?
