Such good food and cheap. Lovely people behind counter too. Busy and friendly. A lot of effort and ingredients in the food. Brilliant.

I would like to say Mamma Thai's menu is delicious and I feel reasonably priced for the meal.

Looking at some of these reviews, I honestly think some people have too much time on their hands and are not quite 'all there'

Mamma Thai - highly recommended.

I've gone to Mama Thai's for years, but over the last 6 months I've seen the portions just get smaller and smaller and have been a little disappointed, also the guy coining the money needs to get a lesson in customer service!

Brilliant home cooked food, lately Mama Thai herself has been absent and her replacement has been a little stingy on the portions, also the food does'nt taste as good its still better than most , but its lacking something, question to the bouncer guy WHERE IS MAMA THAI please bring her back.

Mama Thai is brillaint and I support the old bouncer guy, if you dont know what you want when you get to the front of the queue I think you should immediately join the back again.

The value is great and the Chicken Panang on special is amazing.

I just wanted to write back and apologise for my tone in the comments below. I was hungry and upset and generally disillusioned with the whole consumer process. I suppose it must be annoying to be lining up for a meal and have some indecisive boob in front of you, umming and aahing about what to have for lunch.

I suppose I've always been a little ambivalent when it comes to choosing a meal. When deciding on pizza toppings it can take me up to 30 minutes to make a selection, and even then I can never be sure I've made the right choice. Just the other night I ordered a mixed green salad at a restaurant, only to ask for soup instead. It drives my adopted son, Bingo, crazy. But at least he doesn't chew me out for it in front of other people. Or force me to stand against a wall while I make up my mind.

No, Bingo understands that in this crazy, fast-paced, dog eat dog world, sometimes you have to take some time to consider your options. Pay respect to your preferences. Reflect on the commodial consequences of taking a spicy mince dish over a milder chick pea curry.

Not like that dude by the counter at Mama Thai. Getting into a transaction with that guy is like being trapped in an episode of Mastermind, with your subject of choice being South-East Asian lunch items.

I love the food at Mama Thai's, it's the pressure I can't stand!

Mama Thai used to be the ONLY place in the Spitalfields area for a cheap and hearty meal. Mama's friendly welcome and generous servings made it incredible value for money. Unfortunately, of late, Mama Thai has become little more than a money-making exercise for the small man who stands at the counter collecting cash from customers. Blocking the display of vegetarian options, he calls you through to the counter and if you aren't able to make up your mind or even get a sense of what is on offer, he tells you to get out of the way and serves the next in line. If you do happen to make your choice within the 3.6 seconds allotted to you, he thrusts his grubby little hand in your face and demands payment in a less than genial tone. A singularly unpleasant experience. Just because it's cheap food doesn't mean it also has to be cheap service. Come back Mama!

Excellent authentic Thai Cusine, with a few caveats:

The don't EVER deliver even though they advertise as so

The 10% off on orders over 30pounds does not apply anymore even though they advertise as so on their website

The food portions are a lot smaller, so therefore = expensive

The setting is budget, unlike the rest of the experience.

Massive portions of splendid food with genuine and friendly service for next to nothing. Try the lamb curry, veggie curry, green curry or massaman curry (these are the best although none of it is bad).

Gets very full at lunch times but it's worth it, or if you're in a hurry go for the takeaway option.

Dos Hermanos

Wednesday, October 01, 2008 - Mama-Thai’s was one of the best of the ethnic food stalls making a regular appearance at The Upmarket in Spitalfield every Sunday. Now they have decamped to a small café, which judging from the queues outside is already proving to be a bit of a hit with local workers.
