Sunday, January 09, 2011 - A shortcrust tart of Dorset crab is made with rust-coloured brown meat and a pastry that cracks and crumbles in all the right ways. A salad of bitter endive, blue cheese and chives comes with a mustard dressing that makes its presence known. A thickly coated gratin of thinly sliced Jerusalem artichokes with hazelnuts has the kind of crust that has you picking away at it with a spoon. That dish was the last vegetarian moment before some serious meat cookery, which relies on slicks of huge-flavoured jus, and a lot of hot fricassee and saute action. The mains read complicated but make sense on the plate.

a recent Gourmet Evening was a chance to sample 4 courses with wines to match. Champagne & canapes to start were followed by creamed artichoke & cep mushroom soup- superb depth of flavour, earthy, creamy and perfect with an Austrian Gruner Veltliner. Baked Cod with risotto of Cornish seafood was well executed, well cooked cod and addition of samphire made it delicious, served with a Rhone like white. Main course of Local pheasant breast and braised leg canneloni with red cabbage, good local sourced meat and addition of canneloni completed the dish- served with a stunning Single vineyard Carignan from Chile. Apple and plum Charlotte with yogurt and honey ice cream- perfect end to the meal-with a great raisined Semillon from Australia.

Service was efficient and it was a good chance for the new look Alberts to show what they are capable of.

cant wait for the next one....

Would like to just say that if you are looking for in my experience the best dining experience you will get in the Croydon area, then visit Alberts Table with confidence. Simply, quality ingredients, expertly cooked and beautifully presented with friendly attentive service. Very impressed and pleased to find a restaurant of this quality in Croydon.

Went there for Christmas dinner....said nout out of embarrassment about a tasteless combo of salmon and crab starter..yuk. Over all, nice staff, food hot, good presentation and atmosphere but the set menu for Christmas.. no turkey, roast pot etc to be seen, the whole menu from start to finish was all very much an acquired taste.

Alberts Table is simply fabulous, if you live within easy access of Croydon (which is anywhere from London Bridge to Brigthton) it is a must. Their deals make it a very affordable treat; a well worth it one at that. Before we had finished our dessert our table was booked for Christmas Eve. I am sure we'll be going back before then as just thinking about the meal makes my mouth water.

Fantastic experience. Food top notch with delicious homemade breads and really efficient but relaxed service, reasonably priced too. What a fantastic addition to Croydon.

I visited Alberts Table for the first time last night. The food was good but I felt that there was one ingredient too many in most of the dishes.

The real disappointment was the service. We had to wait 50 mins for our starter to arrive and our waitress seem to "forget us" when it came to taking our pudding order and the bill.

Overall I would go back again but not for a long time.
