Poor quality food. My starter of Waldorf Salad contained 2 walnut halves, a few slivers of celery and woolly apple, shavings of radish and an excess of a very sweet apple jelly in teaspoon-sized dollops, with splodges of mayonnaise dotted around the plate. It lacked any balance and was far too sickly sweet. I ate one of the apple jelly portions, which was more than enough for the whole dish and left the remaining 6 or more.

My main course was also poor. Described as salmon fillet on the menu, it was just that. Fried. No seasoning, no lemon, no enhancement of any sort. Not even a sprinkling of salt or pepper. I had also ordered skin on chips, which were oily and very soft and floppy and looked as though they had been cooked hours earlier and were barely warm. The other side I ordered was the 'fresh' peas, beans and carrots. It was a small helping which may have been fresh once, but as they were served under the fried salmon fillet, the overwhelming taste from them was of the oil in which they were sitting, which had drained off the salmon.

My cappuccino, however, was good and the staff were friendly and efficient.

This was a large family lunch, arranged by one of the family and I did not want to complain as I did not want to embarrass him by doing so. He chose the restaurant due to the convenience of the location and attractive appearance, given that the family were coming from different parts of the country.

We have been to The Carrington Arms several times last year at lunchtimes during the summer. Meals were reasonably priced and enjoyable - our favourite was their fish and chips. However, went with our neice and her husband last month and was very disappointed.

We ordered 2 fish and chips - the fish batter was soggy not crisp as it should be, the chips were soggy and the meals arrived tepid - they were obviously under the hot lights whilst the chef was doing other things.

The burger was very small indeed looked more like a small meat ball and it looked ridiculous on one side of the bun - the other side had a few lettuce leaves on it and a bit of tomato.

The best meal was the sandwich and chips - good value for money but again the chips were soggy looking.

No, we did not complain at the time - it would have spoilt the family lunchtime get together. The waitress had gone home and fogotten to give us the bill, we could have just walked out but we didn't we paid our bill and left.

Big disappointment. Nice looking pub and very clean. Nice garden which we used to visit in the summer. Hope they pay attention to this and go back to serving nice lunchtime snacks.

I can't understand the previous review. Seems very harsh. We have never had a bad meal at the Carrington Arms, only a few so-so dishes. My husband loves their mixed grill and we've always found the service spot-on, even when it's busy. Seafood is always very fresh and I like that you can have a cheeseboard for one person if everyone else is having sweet puds. I'd recommend it happily and have done so!

Worst food ever. Service appallingly slow, 7 out of 10 meals inedible. Would never go there again and would certainly not recommend it, even to my worst enemy!!
