I had a quick look and saw mention of the poor service. Well it's hit and miss really I live near Tomoe and it's one of the best restaurants in the area in my opinion. One waitress in particular is rather abrupt and seems to object to having to work as a waitress!!!! But you will be served by a number of staff and most of them are actually very friendly and accommodating.

Onto the food: This place is great for grilled aubergine+miso, sushi rolls and especially the chirashi. They season the rice nicely, so anything which comes with rice is very good. The rolls are made well, sushi is presented well. The udon and teriyaki is average and quite expensive, so I don’t order them. Tempura is fine.

It’s pricey, but the quality is good. Lots of Japanese regulars, so that’s a good sign.

I've worked in London for 4 years, and have never experienced such a bad service from a japanese restaurant.

Was attended by a lady who came every 5 minutes the minute we entered the restaurant trying to get our order. The restaurant was not even full and she was extremely pushy with the order.

After taking our mains, we were thinking of ordering some starters, however by then, she had collected all our menus except for one from my friend at her far end. I tried asking for my menu back, but was only greeted with a reply.."you can take it from your friend"... before she walked off rudely

Our starters came promptly but one of the mains came first before we had to wait another 10 minutes before the rest of the 5 mains came.

We were celebrating a friends birthday and i went over after the meal to try and ask if they would not mind serving a birthday cake.... only to be told that it would cost £10 to serve the cake, which usually cost £20 pounds.

I had no choice but to say yes, and asked if they would not mind taking the cake and putting candles... only to be told... they do not do that...

they gave us new plates and forks (presumably for the £10 charge) and a small butter knife. I went to ask for a proper cake knife or any larger knife... and was told that for health and safety, they cannot give that.

well, i think this whole experience says it all...and by the way, was charged 10% service charge

the only consolation was that food was reasonable tasty japanese food, but i'll definitely never step into this place again

Had a good meal tonight. Fresh ingredients + friendly staff, though the decor is on the poor side. Mainly Japanese clientele, which can't be a bad sign. Will return again soon.

We have stopped eating at Tomoe due to the inconsistent billing, the rude service run by the head waitress and the filthy decor.

Sashimi is good here and the food is generally of a good standard. But we now go to So or Maguro in Warwick Ave where the menu is less adventurous but offers a better all around dining experience. Check your bill, the head waitress gets it wrong too often for it to be an accident.

the food was good & affordable. the fish was fresh. i would recommend the bowl of sushi. service can be slow pending how crowded the restaraunt is. unfortunately the downstairs area feels a bit dirty. the carpet appeared filthy. Lastly, I would highly recommend that you review your final bill.

The final bill was not itemised, and was £7.10 higher than it should have been. The waitress sorted out it promptly; however, she had recalculated incorrectly second time around. We had to let her know again third time around.

Wentto Tomoe last night, had a fantastic time. Great sushi, really well prepared - warm rice, delicious fish, soft as butter, etc. The soy wasn't too heavy, the ginger was as sharp as it should be. We had the dragon roll and the spider roll, both of which were gorgeous. Probably the best sushi I've had, and certainly compares very well with NYC sushi bars.

Everybody raves about this place. I think people just want to like what appears to be a reasonably priced Japanese restaurant in central London. Immediately upon entering, you're told there's a £15 pound minimum food charge per head. It's not that the quality is poor, but rather it fails to come together properly. The fish slices are tiny. The sushi rice too warm. They could do better, like Sushi-Say in Willesden does.

wonderful wonderful japanese food. it's a great sign that almost 90% of the clientele are japanese. the fish is fresh, and the prices aren't all that unreasonable for london.

the chirashizushi is great, and the sashimi salad is a must-have. skip the reservation at your own peril - because the place fills up so quickly even on the weekdays.

Went with a group of six friends for dinner. Even on a Thurdsay night the place was packed to the rafters - I recommend you make a reservation.

The staff were friendly although our waiter couldn't speak a word on English which made ordering a little challenging.

The decor is very shabby but it kind of adds to the appeal of the place. 95% of patrons were Japnese which is a good sign!

The food was lovely but with most Japanese food it was quite pricey and portions were small.

To eat enough to be 'full' I think you would need to spend in the vacinity of £30 a head. Drinks, especially alcohol, was very overpriced. A pint of beer was £4.80.

Overall we enjoyed the meal and we would go back again. It is a little to pircey for a regular visit but is well worth it if you are craving a Japanese fix. Apparently set lunches are much cheaper.

Pig Pig's Corner

Pig Pig's Corner

Wednesday, January 06, 2010 - Spider roll - a maki roll containing a rather large sized deep fried soft shell crab, it was pretty good. There were some inconsistencies with the sushi creation though, as we ordered two plates, one had the cucumber coating and the other didn't. Also, the roll is normally cut into six pieces, not four; the waitress explained this is due to a new sushi chef at work today. Caterpillar roll - my favourite maki roll of the night, firstly because it simply just looked fantastic. Secondly because the double dose richness of unagi and avocado was really good.

Friday, October 02, 2009 - While the fish was unquestionably fresh, I believe good sushi also takes skill in preparation, and in this department, I think Tomoe falls short. I'll reiterate that I am no fish slicing expert but I have had a lot of sushi over the years, and I do think that good sashimi is much like a sculpture which requires the delicate attention of an artist to chip away the rough bits, leaving just the bits that please...On the other hand, I would return to Tomoe for their excellent cooked food. The unagi in particular was a real winner.

Saturday, April 18, 2009 - Tomoe is spread over two floors, ground and basement. I usually don’t like eating in basements, although the sushi bar is located downstairs and I always like to watch the sushi chef at work. For dinner, however, my Japanese friend and I sat on the ground floor… Out of the two meals, I found dinner far more satisfying. I left feeling I’d actually eaten a very good meal, whereas the lunch of eleven pieces of sushi simply left me wanting more food.
