Osteria Del Mercato

I eat at this venue quite regularly and have done since it first opened. Having read some of the other reviews here, I find it hard to believe they are talking about the same restaurant!

Clearly, it's not cheap but I have always found the food original, well cooked and delicious. Similarly the staff are always friendly, knowledgable and attentive without being pushy.

The wine list is well chosen and has a good range of prices.

I think the high lunchtime occupancy rate (including a lot of Italians working in the nearby Lloyd's insurance market speaks for itself.

The only possible area of criticism is the fairly limited range of desserts - but then I always was a sucker for a pud!

I thought I would try this place because I'd never been there before and its in a great location in Leadenhall Market. Also I thought it would be better than one of the "chain" Italian restaurants. The restaurant itself is ok, its small and cozy, like being in someone house. The service was decent and staff were friendly enough. However the food was a major let down. I was thoroughly disappointed as were all the other people with us.

I would not recommend this place, nor would I ever go there again. Go to the pizza express across the street.

p.s. The calamari was chewier than a recycled tire!

nice med/light decor - poor access via stairway - food good but simple and very expensive for what you get - limited menu - nice people though very noisy when busy.

The food is of a high quality and authentic, the atmosphere is homely and inviting, the staff are warm and accomodating, the service can sometimes be a little slow during lunchtime, but hey, it's just like being in Napoli!

Never been in a place in the city as good as osteria, very friendly cozy and good value for money...the place is always busy, not easy to find a table in some days. I will go there again for sure.
