We had a great evening at Public House last week. The place looks really different but in a good way and everyone was super friendly and helpful, hanging jackets for us, giving us free water without even asking. I'm the type of girl who appreciates the little touches so this was not unnoticed.
As for the food, i went for a steak which was delicious, and my husband had pig's cheeks which were super tender. The chocolate brownie for dessert was really moist and not too sweet too, so very happy here.
Wine list is not cheap but pretty interesting and the cocktails were great too.

Dined here last Saturday night with several friends. Decor is victorian meets Phantom of the Opera - lots of candles and drapes, beiges, pastel greens and sparkles. Really liked the look of the place.
However if I had to sum it up I'd have to say It was a bit of a Faulty Towers experience from beginning to end! When I called to book the table the person I spoke to on the phone sounded a little as though I was troubling him to book a table...but more that he didn't know whether they had any tables or was scared of the chef....but he booked us in anyway. So, table booked, excellent.
On arrival we ordered two pisco sours but half way through making them the barman realised they'd run out of pisco so we were rallied into having a gin sour instead...nothing like a pisco sour but we didn't argue as we'd just stepped through the door. We were shown to our table, given menus and told the specials but no wine list and on asking we were told that they didn't have an up to date list so if we said which sort of wine we liked and price, they would recommend one. Okay, we went with it and were pleased by the choice made on white and red.
The starters came, I had a hearty pumpkin soup - very nice and reasonably priced for the size of the portion. Our mains then took an age to come...and when they did, some of them were cold but by this time it was so late that we didn't send them back. The pork belly was very tasty if a little small. Our side orders were forgotten (broccoli and potatoes) but after asking for them twice (we'd almost finished eating by this point) someone (not our waiter) came over to tell us that they had actually run out of potatoes. To his credit he was very apologetic and offered to bring us some cabbage instead. When this arrived is was really unattractive shredded lettuce (I don't think it was even buttered) so we didn't eat it. On to dessert...
We ordered dessert and coffees but after about 5 minutes the waiter came back to tell us that they had run out of crumble for the apple crumble but he could bring us the apple with some ice cream and he'd throw in an extra portion. He also said that they'd run out of coffee so someone had gone to buy some more... We had ordered espressos but ended up with filter coffees with no apology. We had to ask for the bill 3 times and when our waiter finally came over the machine wouldn't work and he had to keep walking to the bar so it would! 7 times and our patience was seriously starting to wane.
In summary, the food quality was very good but it's apparent beyond belief that they have serious problems with their chef/kitchen/supplies/machinery. Food should not be arriving cold in such a small restaurant nor should a restaurant ever run out of a basic like coffee! Thankfully the waiting staff were very charming and I think this helped a lot on the night as our friends ended up laughing about the whole experience and we had a good time anyway.

Public House is a lively venue probably best suited to groups rather than an intimate, romantic meal - at least on a Friday night, when it really bustles. We enjoyed our meal and were impressed by the creativity of some of the combinations found in the dishes, such as the crab starter and the wood pigeon. All executed well - but you may need to add a side dish to round the main course off. Service was friendly and unhurried, despite the business of the restaurant. Good value with the meal deal.
