Had a really poor experience last night. Apparently the ownership has changed. Unfriendly service, rather tough veal escalope, dried out chocolate cake. The service charge was listed in the middle of bill as a main course so we weren't aware that service had already been added until I questioned the extra main-course. Misleading??? I think so. Nice setting overhanging the canal.... shame about the food & service!

I was very angry and frustrated after dining at Cafe Laville this weekend. The service was shocking. It took them just over an hour to work out our bill only to be given a charge for a Lunch special slap bang in the middle of our bill that we did not order. We were then told by the manager that this was a service charge. It clearly stated on the bill that the service charge was £0.00. Are they trying to pull the wool over peoples eyes?
Food was disappointing and over priced!!!
Do not dine here...

The service is this cafe is the worst I have experienced in any London Cafe. I had to wait nearly an hour for the bill after requesting it. My food was luke warm and bland, and the waitress was just plain rude. I would NOT visit this cafe again.

I really felt compelled to write after eating here and reading the reviews on this place.
The location of this place is amazing because it is by the canal with beautiful view.
Food, service and overall experience is horrific!
Like the other reviewer said, there are 2 waitress who do everything here at the weekend. They are totally overworked and 2 people waiting on more than 10 tables is just unacceptable. The quality of the ingredients and other things like the coffee machine, salt and pepper mill and overall standard of the decor shows that the owners want to spend as little money as possible and at the same time charge £15 for a pasta.
The menu is way way too big for such a small cafe and the quality of food is extremely poor. Such a shame... if the food was even average I would come again but looking at the cakes they sell on the way out, you are actually worried about hygeine and freshness.

I have lived in close this cafe for 18 years and have been in many times over the years. Never really happy with it until now. The present owners Have it in my opinion perfect for what it is, A Caf'e with a very good and excellently priced menu. Lets not forget location how perfect all year round stunning views over the canal at Little Venice. some people are saying a bit slow on service, well if you relax and take a deep breath and enjoy the location its not slow. Good food takes time it is not a fast food joint. Take a two minute walk to Clifton road to eat, the price will soar and the food or service will not get any better.
I highly recommend if it is on their specials board
Linguine with king Prawns and a asparagus Sauce WOW
Keep it guys( 18 years now its great)

When i went to the cafe after a long walk from camden lock, i found the cafe to be very busy with only two waitress. I was shocked the poor girls looked very overworked and stressed we ordered the drinks for outside it took 30 mins for two black coffees. I felt sorry for them i think the boss does not know how to run a busy cafe i mean it was the weekend and two waitress is very bad, anway when i went to the waitress behide the bar about the drinks she couldent of been more sorry i thought she was about to cry i just dont worry about it i see it is not your fault she done them stright away nice coffee though. My point being it is not the waitress fault i have been there many times where it has been understaffed as if they are slaves.

This cafe is in such a beautiful location and it's real shame that this is spoilt by the actual experience. The staff, while not being rude, were unwelcoming and service was slow. We didn't actually eat here, so I have given an average rating so as not to impact their score, but the menu and the dishes around us did look nice. We decided to splash out on a glass of champagne in the summer sun...and it arrived totally flat; I wonder how long the bottle had been open for. We decided not to send it back and instead just drank it and got out of there as quickly as possible.

If you love having a waitress/bartender lie to you and do a horrible job covering it up, this is your place.
We walked into this place while strolling the Regent's Canal a Sunday 5pm. After saying we only wanted drinks, we were told with a slight scowl there were only cold drinks available. Being naive, we didn't take the hint and ordered a beer and a juice. Meanwhile, we noticed other tables with hot drinks and hot drinks being made while we waited.
We confronted them and were told they said no hot drinks due to the lack of milk. That was it - she needed to take a class in lying. We walked out.
This is a classic "for-the-view" place with a brutal tradeoff in service and competence.
