what the critics say

This Is London

David Sexton - 3/5

Thursday, August 27, 2009 - The menu is thoroughly enticing. A pea salad was perfectly refreshing, well seasoned, with some leaves, lots of mint and some nice feta cheese, and the peas had been lightly blanched...Flank steak was surprisingly tender, two big slices seared on the outside and rare inside, served with a rich sauce of wild mushrooms: excellent. Seared fillet of hake with clams in a white wine sauce, with samphire and more peas, was golden-crusted but not at all overcooked for this dense fish: quite delicious.

Tuesday, August 18, 2009 - This being a gastropub of the new order, the food is fresh, British and ambitious. The bread is the best I've had in a long time - Irish soda meets malted granary, served warm and fresh. To start, I went for salad of smoked haddock and quail's eggs, while my companion ordered pan-fried duck egg, pea shoots and bacon. The haddock seemed of good quality but lacked salt, smoke and punch, leaving the dish a bit bland. The duck egg was oddly rubbery but forked with the treacly bacon and pea shoots, pretty damn nice.

I stumbled across The Fellow by accident! And what a great discovery it was!!!

The Fellow it's definitely what a gastro pub should be! Attentive service, great cosy atmosphere and nice food which is not overpriced! The whole concept is very unpretentious, which is quite refreshing these days.

The steak tartare is delicious and the Pork belly is to die for (not tight on portions either).

For eating, relaxed atmosphere or a nice cocktail in the bar/terrace upstairs this is the only place to go in King's Cross!

My boyfriend and I live quite close so we decided to check it out. Despite not bookng and being a busy week day, the host ensured her best we got a good table inside. The food itself is good quality and tasty, I thought it was pretty spot on for what you pay for. The abieance inside was lovely and staff friendly and attentive. V impressed.
