Worst place ever. Waiter could not speak English, everything we ordered was wrong, even when we asked for olives it was not understood. They didn't tell us that all the bread they were replenishing without being asked they were actually charging us for. It ended up over £30 a head and that was without starters & not that much booze!

I decided to share a pizza (their speciality) along with 4 others out of our party of 12. When it came out I only had 3 small slices compared to the others who had 4/5. The wine is expensive, a bottle of Pinot is £20, but they kept bringing out different bottles throughout the night anyway. To top it off, the birthday girl ask when they were giving out the mains if the one she was given had chilli, the waiter then took it away. It turned out he had not understood her so taken it and thrown it away, therefore we had to wait while they recooked it. Then after when they were clearing the plates, they dropped some tomato sauce down her back.

We thought we’d try something new, but will stick to what we know. Don't go here when you can go to the lovely Buona sera down the road!!

I used to love this restaurant a few years ago. Not anymore. Undercooked pizzas, wrong pizza orders, too oily - the list can go on and on....

Will not return

Well I finally went back after a few years absence Sadly it has not improved. Gone are the attentive staff, superbly cooked food and charming homely atmosphere, to be replaced by half a dozen waiters/waitressess running around like headless chickens, food which if I am brutally honest was bland, and noise levels that required a lot of shouting to make oneself heard.

Our waiter was perfectly lovely, but he was far to busy to provide anything like decent cover for our table. Why should I wait over 5 minutes just for a drink?

The pizza - nice gimmick to have everything on one long slice of bread on a raised tray - but a real pain to still have to cut it yourself. But what about flavour? A slice of mozarella, 3 basil leaves, a handful of wilted (or rather wilting) rocket and 2 slices of salami isn't a pizza in my book.

Personally I had the rib-eye steak. Cooked rare as I requested, but severely lacking in flavour (I actually added salt - I NEVER add salt), and about a third was gristle. If only I'd been given a steak knife I could have at least had a few more bites...

I will admit the calamari were very nice, but would have been nicer with a bit of garlic.

This place is always packed out, I suppose its trading on its once glorious reputation that saw coachloads of Italians being shipped in for the food! I probably won't be going back.

It all started out so well.....

I popped in to book a table at Pizza Metro last night and the woman who greeted me was just lovely. The menu looked excellent so when we returned a couple of hours later we were anticipating a great experience.

What a dissapointment.

I thought the food on the whole was really good. A bit too much sauce on the pizza so it was soft and floppy in the middle not crispy and smokey, but it was a great tomato sauce. My spaghetti vongole was again lovely, nice fat sweet clams, lovely fresh sauce. That's where the praise ends I'm afraid. The service really let the whole experience down. It was really slow, indifferent, and in places incompetent. We waited ages for our mains and they really weren't that busy. When you order a dish with spaghetti and shells I don't think it is too much to expect a spoon and a side plate. Waiting for five minutes for one and having to ask two seperate waiters probably is too much. We then sat with empty plates in front of us for a loooooong time. They were eventually cleared but no menus were offered and after a long tme catching an eye to ask for one we gave up. Getting the bill proved equally difficult. When we finally got it I took it to the waiters station and explained that the service had been bad enough for me not to want to pay the service charge. The waiter just shrugged his shoulders, no interest, no apology. Maybe if the two waiters in our section had been better we'd have had a different experience.

Based on last night I wouldn't go back nor would I recommend it to anyone.

We were greeted as we entered the restaurant with the time that the table was needed back by. The waiters hovered by the table constantly until we'd ordered. The wine bottle was constantly checked in the cooler to see if we were done. We felt hurried.

The bill was brought over moments after we'd ordered coffee and someone came over to check whether we were ready to pay about every 30 seconds.

Then the table was demanded back, with the reasoning that the next booking may arrive soon.

As we picked up our bags the waiter assumed we were done, snatched our full wine glasses away from us, slammed them on the counter behind him and cleared our table. We'd paid for wine and didn't get to finish it, the waiter told us to stand at the counter and drink if it.

The service was appalling, rushed and rude. I wouldn't recommend this place, nor would I go back.

Absolutely awful experience from start to finish- criminal that we had to pay for it!

We were 'greeted' by the Manager who moved us to a table that was practically in the kitchen and told us we needed to be out by 9.15, before we had even sat down.

The food was overpriced standard Italian food and the service was slow and awful. Our waiter, the manager, made a point of correcting my pronounciation of a dish and criticised me for adding parmesan to my pasta and seafood.

When asked by the same manager why we didn't want to pay the 12.5% service charge I was met by a rant of abuse in the restaurant when I explained that I felt he had been rude and we had not received any good service, one lovely comment was, "you would find anything rude."

A really terrible place to go to.

The bruschetta was terrible - the bread was burnt, the tomatoes were flavourless and the accompanying 'salad' was nothing more than a few chunks of unseasoned lettuce and cabbage presumably dropped onto the plate as an afterthought.

The idea of serving the mains on a big metal platform in the middle of your table ruins the atmosphere as it means you can't actually see your fellow diners and the pizza was salty, doughy, undercooked and severely lacking in toppings - my wife's sausage pizza consisted of about 4 slices of sad looking greasy sausage.

I guess the service was ok, but with food like that we certainly won't be going again.

Went here on a Saturday night and it was absolutely packed, though they managed to squeeze in four of us after only a couple of minutes wait.

Pizzas are fine. Very thin base which I guess maybe quite authentic, and reasonably tasty, but far too heavy on the tomato base. Ok, but certainly not the tastiest pizza's around. Service was pretty slow, though not surprising given how busy they were, though we did have to wait a bit and had to order our wine twice.

Wine is really quite overpriced for what it is. Only one bottle under £20, the house, which was pretty rough. The choice isn't huge and goes up to £60. Who has that in a reasonably prices pizza place?

All in all, ok but othing special but the atmosphere is quite buzzy. In the area, I much prefer the Pizzas at Donna Margherita (Lavender Hill) or Beuno Sera (Northcote Rd).

Great friendly service, great authentic pizza, good value for money. Only slight problem is it can get major busy some times as result of its popularity. Def recommend!

A group of us had dinner here on Friday night and yes, agreeing with the reviewer below, it was slow service! But we weren't in a rush, so it didn't really bother us!

As always, I thought the pizzas were delicious - I can't believe they are being compared to Pizza Express! The pizzas are huge, so between five of us we ordered three different pizzas and some garlic bread which was more than enough. However, the wine is pricey for what it is.... but the pizzas are reasonably good value.

Recommended!
