I had an absolutely great time at Lantana for lunch the other day. I had a deliciously creamy risotto and my friend had a really yummy chicken burger. The coffee and cakes were equally pleasing and our waiter was very friendly. It is also very reasonably priced with most mains costing less than £10. Overall, Lantana is definitely one of my new favourite places, I definitely recommend it!

I was SO disappointed with my recent visit to Lantana. Having been there before for coffee and breakfast several times and loving it, I decided to take my friend saying it was excellent coffee and food. Our coffee was awful, we both couldn't finish our glass, the food came out cold. I had the omelette and it was greasy and cold. Our waitress was so rude when we were paying our bill, rolling her eyes when I asked to pay on card. The whole experience left me angry that I had spoken so highly of Lantana to my friend only to leave knowing I will never go back after the service we received.

I had a great lunch in Lantana this Saturday. The staff were very busy, but welcoming and friendly, and the food was really delicious. I had the halumi with chorizo. Really tasty. My friend had the green eggs on toast which looked great. The coffee was also excellent - not too hot, nicely served, and really strong.

All in all highly recommended. I'm definitely going back.

I went to Lantana for Sunday breakfast having walked by and thinking it looked good. But in order to put together a traditional breakfast - bacon, eggs, sausage, beans, toast and tea (this is England after all) I had to select each item individually from the menu. The eggs are scrambled or poached only so I selected scrambled and the beans are home made with feta cheese and mint (a bit odd for breakfast maybe but I was up for trying them).

I expected the food to be of excellent quality and generally speaking it was. But there were some problems with both the cooking and the service. To start with the food was brought in little individual dishes - sausage, bacon, beans all in little dishes - it was pretty silly so I transferred them all to one plate (the toast and scrambled eggs came together on a bigger plate) and sent the dishes away.

Problem 1 was that the scrambled eggs came on top of the toast when I had asked for toast separately and when I removed them I saw that one side of the toast was completely untoasted whilst the other side was burnt black. I sent it back. Meanwhile I tucked into the rest - minus toast for now.

Problem 2 - the scrambled eggs were overcooked and rubbery, were lukewarm- almost cold - and were over salted.

Problem 3 - I was only given 1 rasher of bacon - the individual cost of which was £3.00! It was delicious, lovely bacon - but please - a 1 rasher portion at £3.00? Quite ridiculous really.

The sausages - pork and leek - and thankfully they served 2 for the portion - were delicious - solid and traditional in flavour - not at all overly 'designer as I feared they might be.

The beans were a little odd but I liked them - but, for me, a lunch item rather than breakfast.

The new toast eventually came - by which time my remaining scrambled eggs were actually cold - but the toast was delicious - I like sourdough bread. My partner however does not and she did not like the fact that there was no other type of bread to choose from. I agree - not everyone likes sourdough so they should have other breads.

My tea - served in a little pot was good - although I did have to ask them to fill it up properly (the water barely reached the tea leaves the way they served it). My partner's coffee was, she said, quite bitter. So no competition for Bar Italia on the coffee front.

The cost of my bacon (1 rasher only) (£3.00), sausage (£3.00) , beans (£2.50), scrambled egg and toast (£5.00) and tea (£2.00) came to £15.50, which to be honest wasn't worth it. I would have happily paid £10.00 - £12.00 at an absolute stretch with fun and smiley service and would expect them to serve the breakfast properly on a large plate, serve 2 rashers of bacon in a portion and not to burn the toast!

Overall - good food but they need to sort out their attitide re presentation, put an English breakfast proper on the menu (they serve all of the ingredients of one). Don't insult customers with 1 rasher of bacon and offer bread alternatives including actually serving the croissants referred to elsewhere in their literature. Finally, practice using the coffee machine until they get any bitterness out of the coffee they serve.

So back to the Double Six cafe for Sunday breakfasts for me!

Went to Lantana today as a treat breakfast for my birthday. It's the second time I've been and as per my first time, the food was delicious. However £9 for a breakfast is a bit overpriced in my opinion and coffee and orange juice with 2 breakfasts came to £22.40, exc service. However my only real complaint came when we paid - by card. The waitress was suddenly really rude: 'What ONLY £22.40 to go on the card?' We were going to leave a cash tip (avoiding it not getting to staff etc by putting on card) and were so taken aback by her abrupt manner. We did still leave a tip but I wish we hadn't. Literally left a sour taste in my mouth.

Went to Lantana last Friday for lunch and was very impressed.

It is very similar to what most cafes in Melbourne are like - ie. not a chain, real good wholesome food, home made, generous protions, great quality ingredients.

There was a large selections of salads and about eight hot food options from the kitchen. You could also purchase sandwiches and soups. You can also take away.

They also serve excellent coffees and have a good selection of cakes.

The average meal and drink will come to about £10.

I would highly recommend this over the awful chain resturants that are taking over London.

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 - The sign outside claims that it is one of the best in London, and indeed it is very good...What I got next was as close to brunch heaven as your going to get. First, there's the main part of the dish, the halloumi. Salty and perfectly grilled, its a perfect foil for the iron rich spinach, sauteed with fine flecks of garlic, located underneath. Dive a little further and you hit the deep and earthy flavours of the flat cap mushrooms, dotted with a herb pesto. All this topped with a perfectly poached egg yielding a golden runny yolk. On the side, some of the sweetest roast tomatoes I have ever eaten as well as some toasted sourdough, slowly mopping up the juices.

Thursday, May 28, 2009 - I’ve been religiously going to Lans every week for the past six months* without fail, so the caff and I are practically ‘joined at the hip’. As I’ve mentioned in the past I feel totally at ease here and the food and coffee have always been consistently good (despite some of my contemporaries’ findings). Besides my relations with the good people who work here are hardly intimate, it’s more often the case of hello and goodbye, period. Some places hold dear to me and Lantana is one of them.

Gourmet Chick

Gourmet Chick - 8/10

Tuesday, February 17, 2009 - Lantana is an Australian run cafe which opened a few months ago. Reports so far indicated that the brunch was good and the coffee was even better. The cafe itself is fairly unassuming and is located in a quaint little laneway a few blocks from Tottenham Court road. A large communal counter sits across the front window and tables with bench seating line one side of the tiny premises. Pride of place is given to the shiny La Marzocco espresso machine machine on the counter which is fuelled by the holy grail of Monmouth beans.
