TimeOut

TimeOut - 4/6

Thursday, March 05, 2009 - Owner Christopher Gilmour’s other restaurant is the long-standing Christopher’s in Covent Garden…The two restaurants share an upscale rather middle-aged, clubby vibe, and cooking that seems designed to comfort rather than to challenge. But the menu at Gilmour’s, located next-door to Aubergine in poshest Chelsea, is decidedly more Brit than Yank…

This Is London

Mark Bolland

Monday, December 08, 2008 - Gilmour's exterior is wide-windowed and inviting. Inside, it instantly makes you feel comfortable, although this has as much to do with the friendly staff as the room itself, which I loved. The walls are boldly coloured, the kitchen gleams silver and aquamarine and amethyst lamps hang overhead. It's like being in the centre of a jewel box… Mr Gilmour (junior) has come up with a real gem of a restaurant. Make a booking today... there's no time like the present.

Really didn't like this place.. food wasn't great and the staff was incredibly arrogant and rude. Uncomfortable seats and felt rushed.

I met a party of three for drinks and decided to stay for dinner as manager, Visar made a personal attempt to make us feel very comfortable, provided a complimentary bottle of fine champagne for the table began to treat us like royalty. The service staff of which one of each was very respectful, professional, yet friendly to all of our wants and needs for the entire evening but not bothering us constantly like some restaurants. Water, which is a very scarce commodity in the UK, not like the US was constantly being refreshed in either Sparking or Still, during the entire course of the meals. And speaking of meals the mini-shrimp starter was to die for, sorry that I did not order as my friends did and made me try it, and it was exquisite. I must commend the chef and staff on this delightful yet light fare, easy on the pallet yet tasteful and not competing with the main course. My main course entrée was the Roasted Salmon which was prepared medium with plenty of citrus and fennel surroundings. After the top layer of skin was removed the Salmon melted in your mouth as most well cooked Salmon does when prepared correctly. Other dishes served were a Curried Chicken on the bone and the meat fell off of the bone when lightly pulled. Again like the Salmon, was very delightful. The third dish ordered was a traditional Shepherds Pie, a dish I have found not to popular with people traveling from the abroad but this made all other experiences of the pie the most desirous taste of the evening with a light crust on top and a soft yet palatable taste of lamb with spices that compliment your feeling and attitude of the restaurant far from minimal expectations. I will recommend this restaurant to all of my colleagues and friends traveling to London and looking forward to a night at The Enterprise to enjoy some of the same delightful food and welcoming made to me and my friends at Gilmour's on Saturday evening.

booked a week in advance, party of 5, gave us a table for 4 which is small even for a table for 4! asked why we were given this table since we booked well in advance, response was that regulars usually specify what table they want. So lesson is when you book, ask specifically for a table big enough to accomodate your party or they will just try and stuff you anywhere i.e. stuff an extra seat on a 4 person round table to accomodate 5 near the toilet. disgraceful.

They eventually relented but rushed us through the meal so they could have the table back within 1 1/2 hours.

Hugely disappointing service, food was mediocre at best. Plenty of good quality restaurants nearby with far better quality and attitude. You would think this place was michelin starred judging by the attitude of the manager, the reality is this place is just a local bistro trying to be more than it is.

Christopher Gilmour needs to shake this place up.
