i went to "Rossopomodoro" in Covent Garden, recommended by one of my Italina friends, just few days ago, I had a great experience. Food was amazing, the atmosphere was the original Italian one and all members of the staff were very kind. Thanks to Martina and all of you for you greeting.

Overall impressions of my late Sunday's lunch at this little italian chain restaurant:

antipasti selection - adequate, pastry in different forms, little of famous italian meats, may be because PR specialises in Neapolitan cuisine?

fish dish - a swordfish looked something like 3 oz shrivelled piece of eschewed paper on a generous bed of salad. It was rather dry and didn't taste fresh (just short of smelly),

pizza for my companion was burned at the base and undercooked on the top. When she complained, a waitress didn't find it strange.

Finally, dessert - variation on panne cotta was quite good, may be because it was pre-prepared. If only the rest of our experiences were at least as good!

I heard a lot about this restaurant from an Italian friend who said they serve authentic Italian food and was really looking forward to it. After waiting 35 minutes for the starter I was left disappointed with the Neapolitan mixed fritters which was more like bar finger food, not bad but nothing special, I’m sure their other starters must be better. The service was very poor and any apologies which eventually came our way about the bad service which they seemed to be quite aware that we had received was insincere and not genuine at all!

Their DOP mozzarella was very good though and helped create a fantastic authentic Italian pizza. We did not bother with dessert as the service had been so poor and enjoyed a fantastic dessert and service at Hagan Daz in Leicester Square afterwards instead. Also they had the nerve to add the 12.5% service charge to the bill to which I let them know clearly I was not willing to pay on that performance! I would recommend their pizza, however neither I nor anybody I know will be visiting this particular outlet for that pleasure!

Thursday, November 05, 2009 - Our pizza rosso was La Verace with tomato sauce, DOP buffalo mozzarella, DOP extra virgin olive oil from Sorrento and fresh basil. I'm sure it's difficult to find a more carbon-unfriendly pizza with all its ingredients flown in from Italy but you know what? I didn't care as it was delicious with its great tomato base and dollops of fresh melty mozzarella. The base was both thin in the middle and thick (in a puffy way) out towards the edges and had a good chew and flavour. Excellent.

Monday, January 12, 2009 - Rossopomodoro (’red tomato’) in Covent Garden is part of a large pizza chain based in Naples, Italy with 70 branches around the world. There are two other London branches in Notting Hill and Chelsea, and according to their website, they pride themselves on cooking traditional Neapolitan food using ingredients from the region…Purely based on this one experience, avoid everything else and stick to the pizzas! And be prepared for a long wait. If your food arrives on time, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
