I was there tonight with an old friend. I ordered "Risotto ai Funghi" and my friend ordered "Pizza Napoletana". The portion of Risotto was tiny. The rice itself was overcooked and there was no trace of mushrooms. The Pizza was smaller than the plate and there was hardly anything on it. The menu is not like it used to be. They used to have meat and fish dishes...but now, there is only Pastas and Pizzas. Not to mention, the prices have gone really up. My tiny overcooked risotto was 11 pounds. I complained and they gave us a free jar of olives but that didn`t make up for the disappointment. It used to be my favorite Italian restaurant but I won`t be going there again anytime soon!!!

My girlfiend and I went to Rossopomodoro in Covent Garden last night. We've been several times before, but not for a few months, and have always loved the food and so were really looking forward to it. My were we let down.

They used to make some of the best pizzas in London but I can only imagine the restaurant has changed hands since we last ate there. The menu was drastically different for a start - there used to be a large selection but now the choice is quite limited. But a limited menu doesn't make for a bad pizza. Unfortunately Rossopomodoro made us very bad pizzas. The edges were burnt and the middle far too undercooked. The vegetables were from cans and were soggy and tasteless. Worst of all was the mozarella. Whilst they claim to use buffalo, it clearly wasn't. We got 4 lumps of cheese in the middle of the pizza which was incredibly underdone and way too chewy and hard. More like halloumi than mozarella. Consequently, it was one of the worst pizzas I've ever eated. Looking around, it seemed all the pizzas looked just as bad.

The service was good and they were clearly upset we weren't happy, and took 10% off the bill, but for such poor quality fare, we shouldn't have been charged at all for them. Incredibly disappointing experience, especially considering our memories of the place.

Thoroughly not recommended.

They need to improve a lot.

This review doesn't want to be disruptive, but a suggestion to get on with it. I'd love to eat more good pizza and good pasta in Covent Garden....I can't! I get mad about it!

As for the pizza, "absolutely" NOT the best pizza in London. I won't name competitors, but think that after being a professional myself long time in the trade, I've had pizza in Napoli at "da Michele", Trianon etc, so, about quality in the dough etc...they are far away from it.

At least if the pizza responded to real Neapolitan criteria of making..(what it seems they are aiming at) I would have certainly said good things.

I won't talk about the Antipasti...it would be too much!

As a fan of Italian cuisine I have eaten at many restaurants but I must say Rosso Pomodoro serves not only the best authentic food I have tasted but also their customer service is absolutely fantastic. I would recommend anyone who wishes to eat Italian food to go down to Rosso Pomodoro.

There are so many" italian" restaurants in London but nothing compared to Rossopomodoro:the staff is friendly, the place is very nice but the most important thing is the quality of food....

One of the best Italian restaurant in London. I went there with two friend of mine and we got two delicious pizzas and one special pasta with seafood, as waitress recommended. Great experience about everything. Very fast and kind service, lovely and rich food and good atmosphere.

Tamarind and Thyme

Thursday, November 05, 2009 - Our pizza rosso was La Verace with tomato sauce, DOP buffalo mozzarella, DOP extra virgin olive oil from Sorrento and fresh basil. I'm sure it's difficult to find a more carbon-unfriendly pizza with all its ingredients flown in from Italy but you know what? I didn't care as it was delicious with its great tomato base and dollops of fresh melty mozzarella. The base was both thin in the middle and thick (in a puffy way) out towards the edges and had a good chew and flavour. Excellent.

World Foodie Guide

World Foodie Guide - 6/10

Monday, January 12, 2009 - Rossopomodoro (’red tomato’) in Covent Garden is part of a large pizza chain based in Naples, Italy with 70 branches around the world. There are two other London branches in Notting Hill and Chelsea, and according to their website, they pride themselves on cooking traditional Neapolitan food using ingredients from the region…Purely based on this one experience, avoid everything else and stick to the pizzas! And be prepared for a long wait. If your food arrives on time, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
