We found this restuarant by going onto the Time Out website.
We had a 5 / 10 minute wait - but it was worth it. The food was fantastic. We had a range of starters and 2 curry dishes. All if it was delicious; including the puddings.
The staff were efficient and very friendly.
Definitely one to try!

Food and service goes hand in hand. I've only been in london for two months and I miss malaysian cooking. When I was there with friends who brought me because they told me I should try it out, I had a blast going through the menu and having said that ordered two sets of meal comprising of fish assam curry and a fried rice.. love the satays on the side. The coffee after the meal? It was on the table less than 10 seconds. Thats what I call service.

It's cheap and good and tasty. Just not as authentic as it should be.

The message and review below is directed more towards the Management of Rasa Sayang Restaurant.
As with most Malaysian Restaurants is this part of town, they all started well but gradually slide down the scale and eventually close down. I have lived in London for 35 years and this restaurant is beginning to show signs of falling into that slippery slope if the management does nothing to improve the consistency of its food, the ambience and services. I hasten to add the food was delicious but of late, it has become very inconsistent both in taste, quality and portion.
My last three meals there were disappointing. The beef rendeng was extremely salty and there was no prawns in my "char keow teow' - only 4 wafer thin slices of fish balls, one piece of squid and very greasy 'keow teow' . I have to say it was quite delicious minus all the essential ingredients. Come on - give us good food and stop cutting back. Customers will just go somewhere else and will not put up with this nonsense. We go to restaurants to enjoy and relax. Until all these faults have been improved to woo me back, I will meanwhile use other restaurants and customers are spoilt for choice in the West End & Soho area.
I hope this message is a "Wake Up Call" to the management. My friends who frequent this restaurant are of the same opinion so I cannot be all that wrong.

Delicious food served very quickly - don't come for a leisurely meal! Staff are perfectly friendly, but quite abrupt because they are dashing around in a very busy restaurant. This is Chinatown - dont expect silver service and you wont be disappointed. I will be back. The Malaysian veggie curry was soo hot and sooo yummy :-)

Okay, so the service here can be a bit brusque but for me the food definitely makes up for this. The vegetable curry with rice cakes is gorgeous - spicy yet full of flavour and bursting with varied veg (aubergine, cauliflower, carrot) as well as tofu and noodles. The gado gado is also wonderful - cucumber, tofu and beansprouts drenched in tasty spicy peanut sauce. Yum. When it's busy you can feel a bit rushed - don't go here for a long leisurely lunch - but if you're after great food then I would definitely recommend this place.

I am not an expert of Malaysian food but I believe the food is quite authentic. However, as someone who can't eat too spicy food, the heat was a bit too strong for me. I have already chosen the dish (Malaysian fried rice with satay) which only has one "red pepper" beside the name on the menu (which supposed to mean mildly spicy). It came out a bit too hot for me. Beside, it was a bit too salty too. Dessert was nice if there wasn't so much sugar. Overall the food could be good if the favours weren't so strong.

This is my 2nd visit to this restaurant.
The service is on the poor side and the food, in my view is just above average!
I think C&R on Rupert court ( by Rupert street) is a bit better, in terms of portion and service!!
On this recent visit on Sunday, Once our plates were cleared, and I was still sipping my drink, the waitress came with the bill!! how rude is that??
I will try to persuade my friends not to patronize this place, but go to C&R instead...or go to Melati ( at Soho - altho i have yet to go. we wanted to go there, but they were shut on Sundays till some date in Sept)
Feeling hungry n bit tired - chosen Rasa...try C&R.....!!

I love Malaysian food and haven't found many places in the westend that do a good one. I walked past Rasa Sayang a few times. Time Out reviews are cellotaped to the window. Can't be that bad? Most reviews on here disagree. So a couple of weeks ago when I really wanted to try some Roti Canai, I thought I'd risk it. The place looks very basic. Cheap furniture and no atmosphere or interior design whatsoever. I didn't particularly want to stay and 'soak up the ambiance' over a meal so it had to be a take away. Staff were short and not particularly friendly or unfriendly. It didn't really bother me as 'service with a smile' is generally something unknown in Chinatown.
I didn't have to wait too long for my food. I ordered the roti canai and a chicken curry and took it home. Flavour was very good. Meat was a bit stingy for the price. Roti canai was 'okay'.
I think the food was okay. It really wasn't that bad. I might even go back some day in the future to try something else.
In the meantime - the best Malaysian food in Soho HAS to be Melati on Peter Street. Go there instead.
