St. James has an extensive, creative menu - including for vegetarians. Portions are also very generous. I really enjoyed my scallops followed by the venison, while the halloumi salad and green curry also received good reports. We shared the speciality Toblerone cheesecake for pudding, which was great., and set off nicely by the recommended dessert wine.
The space is light and airy, while the service is excellent - very polite and knowledgeable. Generally, I liked the atmosphere but found the music to be poor and repetitive; it was at odds with what was otherwise quite a refined experience.
Value was good with a meal deal; I would certainly be interested in trying it again!

We had great food in here last night. The change in decor to the bar in the front makes you want to go in, it's light, bright and airy. We went for breakfast last saturday, excellent quality food, well cooked. Sausages from the butchers next door and eggs from Gill Wing, nice to see a bit of local support.
Last night we ate in the retaurant, nice decor, could do with some art, patio lovely. It was almost full on a wednesday night.
Food was near perfect, decent pricing and portions. Squid & whitebaite starter, well cooked, light batter with chilli and good tarter sauce. My veggie main was huge, veggie strudel, not too much pastry, filled with veg, delicious coulis. Husband's calves liver, cooked pink and perfect, with good accompaniments.
Didn't make it to puds, were stuffed. Recommended for quality inredients, a chef who knows what they are doing with them at a decent price.

This place is a joke - over priced and totally unprofessional. The food was awful from beginning to end and the staff trying to be helpful but clearly had no clue. I really felt bad for them. What is that 'blue room' all about - they have several different menus going - one very expensive and another suspiciously cheap. Now they have awful music too it seems.
We won't be going back.

Would I recommend this place? Don't know the answer to that!
From the outside it looks promising but the bar staff had little experience for the prices they were charging for drinks. The bar snacks are very impressive and good value but the main restaurant although pristine white and inviting lacks the expertise, flare and presentation of food that the prices command.
