Cooking executed with enthusiasm rather than technical skill - the very quiet restaurant on a Monday lunchtime was still very good value for money - 2 courses for £21 with 2 glasses of decent wine. The foie gras terrine was much more chicken liver in its gameyness, hence the rather insipid melon and grape chutney didn't stand a chance (this should have been SO good); the well boned poussin was overcome with its heavy herb stuffing BUT the roasted new potatoes had taken up every bit of flavour of the de-glazed pan and were delightful.

Very very good coffee and a couple of petit fours ended the meal on a pleasant note.

So to summarize, great for a meal where you need to talk without interruption and nice, comfort food rather than culinary delights.

We had a wonderful dinner at The Crescent on Saturday night, December 30. The food was delightful, the service was impeccable and the price was just right. The restaurant was practically empty. Hopefully, this review will help spread the word about this overlooked gem.

I first ate at the Chelsea Kitchen in 1967 and am continually amazed on return to find it so unchanged. In the 1960s two of us could have a main course and a dessert for 10 shillings (50 pence) and the relative cost is still the same. Moussaka is our favourite with onion soup a close second. It is great to have someething so constant in our ever changing world. Don't miss it
