Telegraph

Zoe Williams - 6.5/10

Wednesday, May 20, 2009 - Brompton Bar and Grill reminded me of what restaurateurs thought places ought to look like in the 1980s – Paris-via-Manhattan, with art-deco-ish hanging lamps, functional furniture and the endearing clatter of a lot of hard edges…Look, it’s fine. Nothing here would make me stamp my foot or bang my cutlery, and if it were in Cheadle it would probably already be in the top five. But these are hard times in a restaurant-heavy town, and I wonder if it has the oomph.

This Is London

Fay Maschler - 3/5

Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - What had become a rather staid restaurant has found youthful vigour, clean lines, an appealing straightforward menu and a wine list where you can’t quite believe the prices… Live jazz piano floated up from the basement dining area. It added to the feeling of happy renaissance of the restaurant I remember my parents liking about 40 years ago when it was called The Brompton Grill.

Lovely restaurant with excellent, unobtrusive and friendly service. Food impeccable, great and well-priced wine list. HIghly recommended. I eat out often and am a fusspot, but couldn't find any fault here!

A thoroughly brilliant concept. Francois O'Neill is a host par excellence. His team are, in the main, excellent and efficient.

The atmosphere of this restaurant is superb and I very much like the simple yet well thought out menu of such things as flat iron steaks and fish stew. Never have the dishes failed to be anything other than brilliant.

Best of all is the bill, with wines at £10 upwards where else in Knightsbridge can one dine in such a fine setting for so little?

My only criticism is that the table closest to the door is very drafty. If they reconfigured their entrance it would be far better. The glass to the sides is not needed. There should be a piece of glass a few feet behind the door instead with diners entering to either the left or right.

I shall continue to dine at the Brompton Bar & Grill regularly.

This is simply a first class neighbourhood restaurant. Well conceived menus that deliver simplicity and quality. The price point is also very good for this part of town.

I went with my wife for a quiet meal on a week night. The food was simple, but absolutely excellent. The service was charming, friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The restaurant has just been done up in an understated but elegant style. There was a good crowd of well-heeled, well-dressed people of all ages and the restaurant was full, but not beyond the capacity at which it ran smoothly. The bill is not cheap, but this is a near-flawless example of its type of simple French-inspired brasserie. Portions are not huge. Ingredients are fresh and of high quality. I was particularly taken with my crab salad starter, which was simple but delicious and came with lovely fresh brown bread and butter. My wife had the fish soup, and said it was very nice and warming on a winter's evening.
