Wednesday, May 13, 2009 - This gorgeous space isn't doing anything new. With its bevelled tiles and industrial lampshades, menu of retro Brit comfort food, ketchups and brown sauces on the table, we've been here before in the likes of Canteen and S&M Cafe. But at Albion, it's just done so much better. The menu bristles with things you want to eat, all at the kindest of prices (I'm prepared to bet our bill was the day's highest and we still only managed about 70 quid).

Wednesday, January 14, 2009 - If Boundary feels like a subterranean secret, Albion, its cut-price brother, is right out there on the street, proudly calling itself a caff… You enter via a little grocery store, itself more a display than a shop, with its preserves and quinces, though the bakery looks useful enough. Then you’re into a fine long room, busy, bright and warm, with a sizeable open kitchen. It’s one of those places that at once feels just right.

Monday, April 19, 2010 - Poached eggs on toast for Chris. And this looks nice. The toast is hearty. And the eggs look perfect. Then there's my smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. (Predictable, aren't I?) I thought this was an extremely large portion. What is that? Three eggs? And there was so much smoked salmon. I left half of this behind. Not because I didn't like it, but because it was just TOO MUCH. And 'only' 9.75 at that. The Service: Fine. Took FOREVER to get the check though. The Verdict: Good.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 - The Boundary is Terence Conran's venture that opened last year and the Albion is the cheap and cheerful cafe situated on the lower ground floor. Of course this is Conran so the Albion is not without style...We both order the bacon sandwiches. These are served on a soft white bun which is spread generously with rich, creamy butter. As I savour the salty bacon I can feel my hangover disappearing already. The only disappointment is that the orange juice is bottled rather than freshly squeezed. Otherwise the Albion is a great breakfast destination.

Tuesday, December 16, 2008 - Albion has an uncomplicated menu of what is essentially British short-order cooking but what initially stood out for us were the reasonable prices – there’s nothing over a tenner. This could have translated into cost cutting in the quality of the ingredients, poor cooking or miniscule portions. It could have but didn’t. Bread was homemade and good and yeasty. Over a bottle of Meantime Pale Ale we munched on a plate of excellent Pork Crackling. So excellent in fact that we had to have another.
