Thought we'd try Mela as we'd recently moved to the area and were looking for a new good curry house.
The staff were very friendly and attentive even though they brought my wife the incorrect main course. This was corrected promptly and she had the correct meal in little over 5 mins.
Our disappointment was with the food. Both our main courses were very bland and lacked any authentic indian flavour that were used to. Moreover, the prices were very steep compared to any other tandoori restaurant we have visited. Unfortunately we won't be returning which is a shame as all other areas were very good, but the food is rather an important element when dining.

The greeting was warm and sincere and we were made to feel welcome quickly.
The cocktails are wonderful, tried the Spiced caipirinha. Rare combo of chillies and cachaca. very refreshing . love to have them in thier charming garden...
we were ten of us , had the shared platters for starters. Too good value.
The LAMB SHANK I have to say was the highlight... real Indian treat....

Normally, I go with my family to the Shaftesbury Avenue branch of Mela but last Friday I paid my first ever visit to Redhill and decided to try out the Surrey version. It's not very far from the station/town centre so after a quick stroll I was there no time at all (and there is a large car park opposite the restaurant for customers who wish to drive).
I arrived just as the staff were getting ready for Friday night service. First impressions: there was a real energy about the place -- an open kitchen as in the London branch is the centrepiece -- and the interior is beautifully decorated. There is a garden area out the back which I am sure will come into its own in the summer months.
The food that I ate was fresh and full of flavour -- this is a world away from the formulaic cooking of the local neighbourhood curry house -- so I think that the good people of Redhill will be delighted to discover that they have top-notch Indian cuisine available to them for the first time.
If I ever visit Redhill again I will definitely pay a return visit to Mela.

Very dissapointing. Service was very bad and they couldnt care less all they want is your money. Didnt get one smile no politeness and had to wait along time to even get our drinks ordered and the bill etc. They have the cheek to add on 12.5 % service charge daylight robbery!! Avoid this place much better restaurants in Redhill and Reigate.

The food at Mela is very good - easily amongst the best in the area. Speaking to one of the owners at lunchtime I was impressed by their philosophy too. However, on a follow-up visit for my wife's birthday we were disappointed. Our online booking despite an email confirmation wasn't in the book so we were fitted in at a corridor table. Service overall was a bit of a mess at present - but I think they are trying to work on this. The free wine made up for it though. Hopefully our next visit will be much better
