I really don't understand why the rating of this restaurant is so high. The food was one of the worst Chinese I have ever had. Oily Har Kau! Disgusting! The service was poor. The waitor was so rude.

I have to say this is my favourite Chinese restuarant in London currently. So much Chinese food is watered down into so-called 'fusion' that it loses much of its character. Choys keeps this character but has adventurous dishes you wouldn't find on your typical China Town menu: braised pork in a garlic stew, for example, and unusual but delicious fish dishes. The staff are always extremely courteous and the decor - whilst not modern - is pleasant and unpretentious. I have been coming to this restaurant for years and highly recommend it. I only hope it doesn't go through a modernisation process that involves a 'new' pan-Asian menu... I recommend booking for Chinese New Year.

My husband and myself went to Choy's yesterday and we found it a pleasant experience. Although unadventurous the food was very good, the service efficient and courteous. We asked for a little plate of chillis and soy sauce and this was brought to us at no extra charge. Highly reccommended.

I was in Choys last Monday. It is a very nice restaurant and great food. Not too expensive. We had a round table for 2 by the window at the back...perfect place. The Service was great. Can't say anything wrong really...

Eating here is like stepping back into the seventies! I'm guessing the decor hasn't seen much of an update since then. But- the food is good, not adventurous and not expensive. The service is very efficient and they seem happy to accomodate kids .A very safe westernized chinese experience!

I've been going to Choy's since I was at school with my parents. It's now been about 20 years, and I disagree that the service is bad there. From the first time we walked in, up till now, I haven't experienced anything remotely close to slow and annoying service. I can only put the other person's bad experience to bad luck perhaps? I go there at least once a month. If you really want bad (and grumpy) service, there are a bunch of them in Leicester Square.
Must eat dishes: Crispy Duck (always ask for 2 or extra pancakes, since there is never enough though), Szechuan Beef, Lemon Chicken and the Steamed Fish. For dessert, go for the banana fritters. Wine list pretty average
