Cafe Rouge (Blackheath)

I must say I do like Cafe Rouge. The waitress was really lovely and I enjoyed reading the papers on offer while waiting for the food to arrive. My boyfriend had a steak with chips which he enjoyed and he seemed quite pleased about having the option to add a sauce (pepper, bearnaise etc). I had a tasty goat's cheese salad with croutons and a tangy dressing. Cafe Rouge probably has one of the best range of vegetarian options, most of which are pretty authentically French. Thumbs up from me!

I love Cafe Rouge in Blackheath, great food and consistently good service......except Sundays.

I went recently for breakfast with my wife and a friend. We waited 30 minutes for our coffees and a further 50 minutes for 3 simple fried breakfasts. It seems that the female staff get Sundays off and we are then lumbered with surly young men who take great offence at being asked after an hour, where your food is. I will still frequent Cafe Rouge but after the latest in a long line of problems I will never go there on a Sunday again.

Having eaten at Café Rouge Blackheath for many years, I cannot remember being disappointed a single time. As mentioned by someone else, it's a chain but does not feel like it. Perhaps because it's a rather small place, very cosy, most certainly because of the service that's always friendly and attentive. It's not going to be quite the same once Caroline, the manager, has left, but there's no doubt it will still be one of the best places to eat at in Blackheath.
