I have been coming here with my wife for years. We and our children love the family atmosphere. The staff are very welcoming and the food is reasonably priced and very good. We especially love the ribs (obviously!) and the weekday buffet deal...Highly recommended!

Hmmm...welll...what can I say...? I read lots of nice fluffy reviews about Biguns Ribs and even allowing for one or two differences of opinion, all in all people seem to think it's a good place to go and eat ribs. So off we went...

Going on a bank holiday Sunday evening we were expecting perhaps not to be able to get a table - however, the place was pretty much empty apart from a couple of small tables that were in the process of finishing their meal. There were two of us and as the place was empty, we sat down at one of the larger corner tables. We were asked to move to a table for two instead - which we quite happily did although there didn't look to be much of a prospect of a sudden stampede for tables if truth be told.

We ordered the following: large rack of ribs with fries and coleslaw and a Biguns burger with fries - we both had a side of onion rings and a beer each. You'd think that this order would be quite difficult to ruin but Biguns certainly distinguished themselves on that score. The ribs weren't bad in themselves but were accompanied by a nasty acrid smell, the source of which was to be found under the ribs which had been incinerated to charcoal - there is a distinction to be made between nicely barbequed and burnt to a cinder, no? The onion rings looked (and smelled) a bit more promising but had been coated in some sort of peculiar batter which left a nasty floury aftertaste in your mouth despite having been thoroughly cooked in what was clearly a lot of very cheap oil. The burger was as tough as old shoe leather and tasted as if it had been hanging around for a while. The chips were OK as was the tablespoon or so of coleslaw. I noticed that on the menu they offered an unlimited salad buffet for a few quid and given the quality of our meal, I was careful to take a look at this on the way out just in case anyone reading this might be tempted to give it a go. The salad selection consisted of a half-dead mixture of mixed leaves, some very elderly looking sauces and grated veg and one or two other quite scary and aged items which could probably have been carbon dated. I'm assuming that the 'unlimited' salad bar offer was probably quite profitable for them given that you'd be unlikely to go back more than once.

As I am typing this I can still taste the onion rings and that my friends, is not a recommendation. So to sum up: pros: £30 all in, cons: the food.

After reading some of the reviews about bad service i was supprised to get outstanding service.. Very attentive, food was out fast staff was extremly friendly. I must admit however we were there late on a sunday evening and there were only two other tables there so maybe the serivce is not as good once the resturant is full however i could not confirm this.

The ribs were GREAT! good portion great quality meat and flavor. Girlfriend had the Chicken Kiev she said that was great also!

Its an old fashioned diner style resturant with old fashioned music playing. Obviously dont go here if you want a "posh" night out at a "fancy" resturant.

I would however highly reccomend this place if you want great food with great service in a Retro relaxed environment!
