Saturday, May 30, 2009 - With a pint of draught Kingfisher nicely freezing my hand, the menu at Hason Raja looked reassuring. So did the room, a standard Indian restaurant of the late 80s with lots of light ersatz wood about and waiters in dinky uniforms. I asked one what he would recommend as a main course, ‘oh the chicken tikka masala!’ he said, quick as a flash. I searched his features for signs of irony, but he seemed completely serious…This is an Indian that plays by old skool rules with mostly Bangladeshi dishes and it does the job well. Not fine dining but fill you up food with a subtlety that marks it out from more suburban ‘Indians’.

Sullen staff and no atmosphere. The food compared poorly with Wetherspoons £5.95 curries including a drink. Spicy tiger prawns at £5.95 consisted of 3 rather tough and unpleasant prawns. The Lamb Rojan Josh was very average. Kingfisher £4.95/pint. Worth avoiding.

I had dinner in this restaurant 3 years ago with my family and all of us coincided that restaurant was very good. Now I am passing some days in London and decided to repeat with some friends. The experience has been very very BAD. The service very slow. It took more than 40 minutes to get the main dishes and on top of that the quality was very standard. For sure I will no repeat and I will not recommend to anyone. Sorry to be so negative.

Perfect. I am quite a curry expert and normally always choose chic jalfreize, pilau rice and keema naan.

I have to say this was without doubt one of THE BEST EVER, absolutely nothing to complain about.

Total bill including bottle of water at 3.60! and the 15% service charge 21.88

Good value I think

Definitely one to AVOID! This is the worst restaurant I have been to for twenty years. Truly awful. The food is not fresh. The waiting staff were extremely rude and arrogant. They added a 15% service charge to the bill, they charged for pickles that we did not order and they could not produce a VAT receipt when asked at the end of our meal.

They brought me the wrong order twice. I'm a vegetarian and the waiter kept bringing me samosas containing meat, which I hadn't ordered. I think they just microwave frozen appetizers and they don't seem able to separate the vegetarian and non-vegetarian ones. I had heard about the great Indian food in London but this restaurant was the equivalent of a strip-mall, fast food Indian place off the New Jersey turnpike.

Hason raja,,, is it a place to eat or is it a war zone...

friday 24th september 2010 around 8:30 pm i arrived at the restraunt with my 10 year old daughter. i was nicely greeted and was taken to my table..

couple minutes later a waiter came to us and took our drinks order.. he seemed very friendly and had a polite manner for a young age.. another 5 minutes later another waiter came to take our food order he had a lack of broken english spoken and as i asked for a recommendation he forced me to order wat he has said.. as i said no he said yes and deliberatly brought to me something i didnt order..

me and my daughter felt intimmidated scared and horrified with that kind of service. if i recommended hason raja restraunt i'd say 10 out of 10 for the looks but minus zero for the awful order taking..

will i ever go back??? not even in a million years

I and a friend had a meal at this restaurant on a saturday evening. The restaurant was well organised and the food was quite good too. The problem is the very rude and arrogant behaviour of some of the staff so beware.

The most shocking service I have ever encountered. As soon as we got to the place we were hurried with orders and after asking the waiter what he would reccomend, he responded by saying "don't know". When out drinks came in dirty glasses we were told we could not have a clean glass. The food was very average and not up to London standard at all. A huge service charge was added to our bill which we asked to be taken off but it wasn't so we had to argue with the head waiter that he had informed us that the service charge was optional. I will never return to this place and I would advise anyone looking for a nice meal And service to stay away from the Hasan Raja.

My experience was unfortunately less positive than others reported here, though I won't be returning to see if it was an aberration. The food was mediocre and the service abominable. I dined on a Monday evening and the restaurant was less than half full. The waiter came reasonably promptly and asked for my drink order. I said I wanted tap water, but he said that wasn't possible, and could only bring me bottled water. The papadams I ordered were delivered fairly promptly. They were as crisp and savory as you'd expect papadams to be, and the chutneys were very good. There was then a very long wait before my naan and main course, a seafood biryani, were delivered. The naan was good but had cooled to room temperature. The biryani sauce and seasonings were good. the seafood was not plentiful but not much was needed because it tasted many days old. The waiter was surly and perhaps that is why I was not more disturbed that he ignored me throughout the dinner.

When it came time for the bill, nobody ever came spontaneously and only after asking three of the staff to get my bill to me and waiting 20 minutes did it finally come.

Perhaps it was an off night for the food, and not such a good idea to order a seafood dish on a Monday at a restaurant. But more than anything the service would keep me away. It's unfortunate because the restaurant has nice decor, it's a convenient location, and the prices would be reasonable if this were higher quality food.
