TimeOut

Guy Dimond - 3/6

Thursday, February 26, 2009 - Things start well: our friendly waitress is from São Paulo, and many of the other customers are Brazilian; it has a very casual feel. My caipirinha cocktail’s well-made, and service remarkably efficient by Brazilian standards…The buffet’s a simple selection of the expected farofa, crisp manioc chips, and various so-what international salads; plus a vat of bean stew...But then the meats arrive. A cut of beef ‘like a filet mignon’, we’re told, is the high point, perfectly tender yet quite rare on the inside. Pork sausage is meat-packed, and strongly flavoured with herbs.

Went last night and think it's a great concept. Service was good although the food was a little slow coming from the kitchen. The atmosphere was also very good.

My problem is with the seasoning of the meats. I'm not sure why but they smother the steaks with Garlic and Rock Salt which detracts from the excellent meat (which is cooked perfectly) as all you can taste is the Garlic & Salt. Apart from this, the Pork, Chicken wrapped in Bacon and the sausage were excellent as was the salad and accompaniments.

We stopped for a bite to eat and a coffee when passing by, he staff were friendly and the service was good. My husband and mother ordered a cheese and ham toastie which were both very nice, I ordered a toasted bacon, the toast was burnt and the bacon had so much fat on I has to cut it off. When a different waiter noticed the fat he did offer me some more bacon which I declined.

One of the coffee cups was very dirty with so many small chips on the rim we sent it back asking for a clean one, the waiter was adamant that this was not dirt! He came back with a slightly better cup but continued to explain that it was not dirt but chips from rough handling by the staff packing dishwasher (even worse!!)

I also viewed someone unpacking fresh cakes for the display fridge but without gloves. Another member of staff went to help shrink wrap croissants, also no gloves.

I would not go back to Comida, maybe things would have been different if I had chosen a cheese and ham toastie.

Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, excellent meat (a little bit spicy) and generous portions. The full meal (meat and buffet as much as you want) is very convenient!

I had a totally different experience from the review I just read.

I found that the staff were really welcoming & very animated....making us very comfortable.

A small group of us went to Comida for a friends Birthday....we ate masses of food (perhaps too much!). The service was efficient, we possibly waited a bit too long for them to clear our plates however, the restaurant was busy.

We didn't have enough time to have any desserts (& I'm not sure we could have managed it either), however, I think it was good value for money because of the amount of food we were offered was vast.

I would definitely go back again

I was so dissapointed with this place. We were there for a special occasion which was ruined.

It is a GIMMICK for tourists (if you are a local avoid) - we paid £30 each for two plates of salad, and a glass of wine. While the salad was fresh and had something of a variety it was basic salad with very little meat offered.

There was a large table of (drunk, shouting and singing) men sitting next to us who seemed to be getting preferential treatment, because the staff bring the meat around on skewers and they kept on going to the other table first so by the time they got to us the skewer was finished and the men didnt even have a stitch of salad on their plates. I even overheard one of them say "Oh no more please, I all meated up" - No word of a lie I had two dinky pieces of meat which was very nice but too scarce for such alot of money.

Great food! Better meat selection and seasoning than any other brazilian restaurants in London... WAY better than Rodizio Rico.

Went on the evening of 03/04/2009 and will definately be going back.

Good points - the food is amazing, the salad bar is super yummy with lots of authentic brazilian hot and cold sides (not a sniff of iceberg thank god), the meat just keeps on coming and you can have as much or as little as you like for £20 - awesome for those with big appetites, you get to try a lot of different things without spending a fortune, the meat is beautifully cooked and very special, the atmosphere is very relaxed and funky, you are not rushed thru your meal - you can take your time, and of course, the location is wicked, on a warm night you can sit outside and people watch.

Bad points - the service is a mixed bag - we had a lovely waiter and waitress but some tables had poorer service and some members of the staff speak no english and will just ignore you rather then letting you know they don't understand, you can wait a while for the meal to get going - we waited a little while for the meat to come our way and for our drinks to arrive but as we weren't in a hurry this was okay - if you are super hungry, in a rush or had kids the wait would be too long, the bathroom is unisex - this really bothered my friend so its worth considering if you're dining with anyone who is shy or traditional and finally the drinks are super duper overpriced - we paid £2.50 for a glass of coke, not even a can or bottle.

Despite my bad points I will definately be ending back with my hungriest friends in tow as its a full on feast but will probably have a drink elsewhere before hand and avoid this location if my friends have any of their kids to tow.

A lovely and friendly atmosphere, Brazilian waiters, delicious traditional food and reasonable prices. What am I talking about ? Comida Reastaurant.

Comida has mouth- watering dishes, a mixture of rice, succulent meat, fresh fish and exquisite vegetables, all served by waiters dancing the Samba.

It's like Brazil without Copacabana Beach and the Rio Carnival.

Try it and you'll never forget Brazil,
