The review saying Hungs is dirty is unworthy of this site

I go to Hungs precisely because they are scrupulously clean, have passed hygiene certs etc. They get tripe and other tasty but neglected cuts of meat (probably familiar to those with 60's northern childhoods - pigs trotters, beef tendons etc) out of the big refridgerator. They cut the barbecue meats only to order, and the hot noodle dish called Ho fun with beef and green pepper in black bean sauce is an exemplary version of this dish. Their won ton and prawn dumpling soups are lovely. Service straightforward. Only gripe is that they charge you service at 10%, but the bill comes on a dish with a sticker saying "great service deserves a tip". Hmmmm......

Wild intemperate abuse of Hungs does not equate with my experiences at this pleasant little cafe. seems to be associated with the Crispy Duck restaurant, which has also had fierce abuse for no apparent reason.

Its not only foreigners who do not appreciate dirt, sloppy service and - to be nice - mediocre food. Obviously the restaurant is not delivering any more. I ate there last week and I must say to put it on a Top 10 list is ridiciolous. I ordered 3 dishes, always the same spices, everything fried and in old oil.

Can only think that these negative reviewers are actually rival restaurants posing as angry customers! Staff were brisk but cheerful & responsive, & the food was absolutely fine - I was a bit tiddly, admittedly, but the Chinese veg was fresh, the tea was good, & everything else was tasty & nicely prepared. Not as good as Mr Kong's, but less expensive.

I agree with Bryan Goh's review a few reviews down, as that has been my experience with this friendly, efficient little restaurant at lunchtimes over the past several years.

I am sad that foreigners have had a bad time here.

Perhaps if you order the realtively cheap stuff like me you get better deals

Personal recommendations are the Ho-Fun flat noodles with beef, green peppers and chili in black bean sauce, yet to be bettered in Chinatown for its tender beef, noodle soups featuring roast duck, barbecue pork, or beef tripe, or combinations of two of those ingredients. The beef tripe noodle soup is excellent on cold days with chilli oil (free on request) on the side. Mixed half and half with duck, the noodle soup also good but beware little bone splinters as the duck is so tasty. The won ton and prawn dumplings are nice here and I was very impressed by the flavour of their crispy pork in a crispy pork and duck rice.

Tea is better than average.

It is the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant and I will never return! We didn't expect much from the food and service and we were't disappointed!our evening almost ended in fisticuffs after a prolonged heated exchange the rudeness of the staff was astounding. The fact that there was more shouting with other patrons shows that these people are clearly deficient in customer service and in their mental faculties. Mediocre food and mediocre service.Best avoided.

Worst restaurant experience I have ever had. They served me and my friends one of the poorest offerings of Asian food I have ever tried. When we complained they simply ignored us. And after repeated complaints their next course of action was to send security up to our table to ensure we paid for all our food.

I will never return here and urge you to save your money and time and try out one of the other many options around chinatown. I can guarantee it will be better.

This shabby Chinese restaurant has two things. Overpriced food and rude staff. Some of their food was clearly just heated up and the staff actively engage in belittling their guests. Will never go back there and do not recommend anyone else to go there either.

We were four people going to dinner at Hung’s restaurant two days ago. The reason we went here was because of the good reviews the restaurant has gotten on this website. However, we found it rather disappointing. We ordered four different dishes; one of lamb, one of beef, one of shrimps and one of duck. The shrimp and duck dishes were okay (mediocre), but the beef and lamb were, to be honest, terrible. The lamb one was supposed to be made with ginger, while the beef was cooked with spring onion. However, they both tasted the same, and there was almost no difference between the meats as they had been marinated with too much baking soda. That made the meat artificially tender, which was in our opinion very sickening. Furthermore, when we asked for some fresh chilies on the side, we were being charged with £1.50 for a little chopped up chili. That is outrageous! No other restaurant has ever charged us for a little extra spice before.

Entering the restaurant, we were asked to either sit on ground floor or upstairs. We decided to sit upstairs since the ground floor was so noisy and looked dirty. The stairs up was so narrow and the second floor was even dirtier than the floor below. Even the toilet was bad. We would never want to return to this restaurant. This place was very ordinary, average and obviously for the lower class.

The only thing we liked about it was that our waiter was funny, enthusiastic and polite. That is unfortunately not enough to make us come back.

Among the Cantonese, Hung's (formerly Crispy Duck, formerly Hung's and formerly The Gourmet Diner) is one of the best in London for simple Chinese Cantonese food. Beef brisket, beef tripe, all types of congee, the best quality noodles, grilled pig intestines, are to be had here.

Roast duck is pretty much a commodity in Chinatown and Hung's does a very competent roast duck. It is fattier and saltier than most, which is as it should be. If you prefer a leaner, lighter duck, go to the Four Seasons, but Hung's execution is the real thing that you would get in Wanchai or Mongkok in Hong Kong at some ungodly hour of the morning.

The quality of the noodles is excellent. It is more 'al dente' than the competition, which may not be to everyone's liking, but again, this is how it is in Hong Kong.

Service is excellent if you get to know the staff. This is very much a family restaurant and knowing the staff definitely helps in terms of service, help with kids, and daily specials which may not appear on the menu.

Monday, February 09, 2009 - The naff name of Crispy Duck is enough to put most people off, but I was surprised that the entire ground floor dining room was populated by nearly 100% Chinese diners… Won Ton are for the masses but Shui Kow are for the discerning lot. The main difference is the latter has a much greater percentage of prawns to pork in the filling and ultimately more delicious.
