The Kennington Tandoori is the best Indian I have had for a long time - I will certainly be going back again and again and again. The food was excellent and the service wonderful.

We decided to go to Kennington Tandoori on the basis that any restaurant which can survive and apparently thrive after an endorsement from Anne Widdicome must be good.
I can only assume that Widdie enjoys the same treatment in restaurants as she's used to in Westminster.
OK so they were busy after the cricket but having the manager bark that we could 'take our chances' then wander off forgetting about us for 30 minutes without A) offering us a drink or B) mentioning that the menu was a special £20 set menu for the cricket is just not erm...cricket.
I like the idea of a set menu if the idea is to improve speed, quality and service during a busy period but the quality of the food and service far from bowled us over. The food was OK but really not what i'd expect from the supposedly best Indian in London.
The final insult came when, unable to finish my dinner, I asked to take it away and was told - bafflingly - that whilst this is normally perfectly acceptable, we couldn't as it was the end of the night, they were still busy and if we took it it would be wasted! Do they re-sell the stuff? So we left. Confused, empty handed and stumped.

The meal was disappointing in contrast to all the good reviews.
For starters, we had Vegetable Dolma and Prawn Puri. The Dolma was tasteless, while the prawn puri was not the "PURI" I know of. They may be trying to present dishes as British Fusion, but in that case, they should state so clearly in the menu.
The Tarka Daal side dish didn't taste like chickpeas at all. It tasted rather like instant corn soup diluted with cream. It just tasted artificial. The Peshawar Naan was disappointing since it was just a bland naan with added raisons.
I am sure that waiters are nice people. However, it is annoying when they are watching you over all the time from close distance.
If you haven't experienced genuine Indian cuisine, this place may be OK. However, if you know the genuine one, don't bother to go to KT.

The absolute best indian restaurant in London. (And I've had a few!) Not a bad word against KT, they provide excellent service, delicious dishes, a fabulous atmosphere and a great experience. You can see the owners veiw for not accepting second best.
I'd recommend this restaurant to everyone, Its amazing. My fiance and I now travel from the other side of London to get there. The food is amazing and at such a great price, its the best around. (They don't do the cheap bright red tikki masala, but a rich, creamy variety.)
I'd recommend the Biryani dishes! xx

I've lived in Kennington for nearly two years now, and I can honestly say that in my humble opinion the Kennington Tandoori (KT) is the best Indian restaurant I've visited in London (and I've visited a lot!!). The quality of the food and service is consistently excellent - their Chicken Dhansak is the best I've tasted, or try their Naga Murgh for something really special.

I think the KT is exemplary in everyway - welcoming old school management and staff, great ambience, lovely wine, eccentric regulars and most important, the food is truly outstanding and to my taste.
i don't enjoy indian food in London unless it's there.
No, i'm not related to the owner - just a very happy regular customer!

The KT has been a local favourite of ours for the past 3 years. The menu is interesting and a bit different to the run of the mill indian restaurant. The staff are always extremely welcoming and have ensured our evenings there have been most enjoyable. I'd recommend the KT to anyone - it's definitely worth a journey

We have used this restaurant many times and can say that it is truly great. In answer to one or two negative reviewers, of course Indian restaurants MUST use a stock sauce, otherwise the dishes would take hours to make, so its pointless complaining about that. The point IS that they make their dishes with quality ingredients, finish them off well and offer fantastically professional service whether you eat in or take away. AND they will deliver to us in Clapham - 3 miles away.
And Samanth,... I think you mean "What,... are you drunk?" Some people.
