Kennington Tandoori

Popped in tonight to break up long drive from Kent to North London. Staff very helpful and good natured. We only ordered main courses, rice, bread and drinks but this wasn't a problem. Goan vindaloo (lamb) was proper bo - sour and dark, with good heat and richness. Not your usual curry house nonsense. Chicken bhuna was also good, with decent meat that had the tikka treatment. Rice and bread all good, and glass of red wine was pretty serious in its ability to match the food.

Downside? The cost, meal for two (plus starter for our daughter) came to £65, including a 12% tip (no service charged, but all the staff were friendly and efficient). London prices are getting a bit silly these days, aren't they? I know you can get cheaper in Tooting, and the KT has had an expensive re-fit, but £65 for a bite to eat makes this place less then reasonable and not great value.

Totally awful

Went with my partner tonight - she wasn't too hungry and only wanted a starter

Ordered one starter, a main course for myself plus some rice to share and asked for it all to come together.

Was told they'd allow it THIS ONCE but it wouldn't be allowed next time. I replied there wouldn't be a next time !

I reminded the incredibly obnoxious waiter that I was the customer - he then got more offensive and complained we were only coming in for a 'snack'

After explaining our amazement and disgust again we were asked to leave - we were only too pleased to do so.

Avoid at all cost.

With so many good Indian restaurants in the city, I certainly wouldn't bother with this one again. Mediocre, over-priced food; abysmal service; and a draconian policy about what exactly we were allowed to order.

The food's quite good. But the service is terrible: it took over an hour for our order to arrive, and then only when one of the party left the restaurant tired of waiting.

Maybe they were having an off night, but I'm never going to return to find out.

This is a really nice restaurant with great service and exceptional food! I live 2 tube stops away but its well worth the journey and its become a non-local local for me. When my mates come to London I always take them here for a good feed before a night out. I wish I could go every week but its not exactly a cheap restaurant (you get what you pay for though!) They have recently started taking online orders so I can get the exact same grub at home (for quite a bit cheaper) - the only down side of the online ordering is that I don't get to see the guys in the restaurant who are all a really nice bunch, I've been coming here for a couple of years so they know my name and I always get such a lovely welcome.

I have been to this restaurant very recently and I have to confess I haven't been highly impressed.

Service and atmosphere are good but the food is average and quite expensive.

not sure I'll go again...

I have been to the KT many times, each time welcomed with open arms. I have been living the area for over 18 years, and each time the KT has never failed to impress me. Their bryani came out top for me. Whenever I eat biryani elsewhere, it is always dry and the meat is tough inside, never at KT though.

Forget all the bad reviews that have been left. There is only one good reason why the KT has been open for over 25 years and that is because it has been successful. They have supported many charities, they are also the star show of the fair which they help organised with the locals every year.

Looking at the poor reviews you only shows they have recevied some rather spiteful people who seem to want nothing more than ruin one man's dream of an amazing restaurant. Everytime the owner comes to see if everything is all right at the table you can tell straight away this guy has passion for what he does.

The only thing I just cannot get head round all the bad reviews is why are there bad reviews at a time when the restaurant was closed for 2 months refurbishment.

We went to KT tonight and it was a complete disaster!!!!

I asked advice for my curry and waiter recommended one on the menu, when the curry came contained almonds which never said on the menu, so we had to wait 15 or 20 minutes for another dish.

We started to eat the veg. side order, to discover that the potatos were too hard to eat.

The end was hilarious......I ordered a vanilla and caramel ice cream rolled into a wafer basked as said in the menu, all I got was a small scoop of ice-cream on its own with a bit of choco sauce!!! We asked the waiter where was the wafer and after reading the menu he said " It is only a saying, there is not wafer!!!

We paid but I felt to complained to a man that looked like a manager on the till and all he said I can take your number and find out what happen to the wafer....!!!!!! that cost £ 4.50.

I hope at least was funny but please do not go there!!!!!!

we ate here last night again after couple of weeks. food again nice, service ssems to be bit improved, fantastic environment. after our dinner when the bill came it didnt amazed us coz it was 250 pounds. though it was expensive but enjoable. many thanks kt. we will back again soon.
