What a 'GEM', we've been here four times now and the place never fails to dissappoint. Great value for money, and lots to choose from on the menu. All the staff will ensure you are very happy with your meal. If you are undecided about this place....then dont be! Once you have been you will be back.

Came here with 11 friends for a joint birthday with a friend of mine. Downstairs was pretty empty and not very inviting, but as soon as they turned the lights down, brought some wine and hoiked up the air-con it was great.

We shared set menu 2 between us, and boy were we stuffed by the end of the meal. My goodness - the starters themselves were sufficient. Delicious meze style - pitta, pastries etc. Yum! My lamb stew for main course was lovely - although I was disappointed with the distinctly Uncle Ben's style rice.

Wine was nice, and Baklava for desert was heavenly.

An absolute 'Gem' for £18 per head.

Will defo be back. Two thumbs up!

I took my work colleagues here for our christmas lunch. We chose menu 'A' which included unlimited amount of house wine, beer & soft drinks for 2 and a half hours, starters, main course and pud!....all for just £25 each

A warm welcome as we arrived, had a nice table.

Starters were yummy, you get so much, lots of little dishes of dips, hot things etc. After we managed to consume most of the starters all my colleagues were pleased. Main course arrived about 10 mins after. I ordered the Et Sote (lamb dish), it come over still sizzling in the earthenware.....mmmm, the lamb was so tender it fell apart in the mouth, it was all very tasty. Other people had the vegetarian musaka and the stuffed aubergine, they were pleased too!

The pud is very sweet but not too big so just right.

Overall, this had got to be one of my fav restaurants!

I went here with 15 friends to celebrate my birthday and although the decor is simple, it provided a cozy feel. The menu choice is varied, although everyone had to select the same option. This could have potentially been a problem, as the system wasn't explained to me at the time of booking. However it worked well, as my guests agreed on a menu without too much fuss. The staff are nice and got into the spirit of things, bringing me some ice-cream with a single candle, whilst singing happy birthday. I would dine here again, as it was good value for money.

Went to Gem last night...(live in Islington but always used to walk past as thought it looked unatmospheric compared with Gallipolli & Pasha). The food was very good and very cheap- £20 each with a bottle of wine. The service was also very good, attentive and friendly. The place was busy so there was some buzz but no music, and the decor is a bit plain and mismatched, so it is more somewhere for a quick bite or good cheap place around the corner rather than somewhere to book to take friends which is a shame- with a little more effort in decor and food presentation this could be something more special.

I agree with all the comments, by far the one of the best restaurants in London. Food is outstanding, the service is fantastic and friendly and you get amazing value for money. This really is one of my all time favourite restaurants and can't fault anything about it!
