Some hit and some misses. Prata was very crispy - pretty good. Prawn cracker lacked the right crunch and taste. Beef Rendang, Chicken Curry, Nasi Lemak and seasonal Vegetable were of normal standard. Fish Curry wasn't authentic but flavourful with fresh fish. Char Kway Teow and Balachan Shrimp in Binjal were beautifully executed. V V hIgh points for the Belachan Shrimp in Binjal.

Having tried this out on a fellow Penangite's recommendation, I find that Sedap is the best in providing Penang food like Char Koay Teow, Chicken Rice, Laksa Lemak, Kerabus and Nasi Lemak in London. Their nyonya kuih is the most authentic nyonya kuih in London. I am pleasantly surprised to find such authentic Penang food in London, given that not many restaurants would bother with this famously laborious cuisine which uses a lot of Malaysia sourced ingredients (hard to get most of them in London and therefore expensive). Like most Penang kopitiams, the service is informal (welcoming and friendly) and the decor simple but practical. The focus of all the best Penang kopitiams is always predominantly on the taste and quality of the food. Sedap has managed to recreate that in London. No other Malaysian restaurants have come even slightly close to Sedap in the taste of Penang food. All the ones I have tried in Soho & Leicester Square cannot compare to Sedap. Would recommend Sedap to people who prefer good tasting and authentic Penang food & culture. The fantastic taste of the dishes there are worth every penny.

Very authentic nyonya cuisine from Malaysia. Portions are tiny but the place was filled with Malaysians so you know the food is good. Most impressed with the sensational Penang kwai teow but cucumber salad was refreshing too. Try to get a table in the front room where there was a buzzy atmosphere & better service.

The portion is extremely SMALL. Its not worth for value given a main dish average price is about £6.95. There is no atmosphere in the restaurant and its a small restaurant. We were given the back room which is like dining in a cupboard. Its not worth going there. There are plenty better malaysian restaurants in soho and leicester square.

Hmmm, I have to agree that there was a certain oiliness going on with the curry that we had here, although it was tasty. I definitely thought the portions were small and after sharing a roti prata, satay, duck curry, rice, and some char kway teow, I was still hungry.
It was definitely a cheap meal at £27 for 2 without wine, but I'd probably rather pay more and get a decent sized plateful.
Staff were very friendly and sweet. The place could do with a slightly cosier atmosphere and although it was busy when we arrived here on a Tuesday night, once it thinned out a little it felt like your conversation could be heard by everyone and you could hear everyone else's.

Portions seem smaller than on my last visit but the quality remains excellent. Delicious chicken satay and char kwey teow (possibly London's best?) and a subtly fiery chicken curry. Love the spicy sambal veg dishes and the sweet teh tarik. Very cheap at lunch and great for a pre-pub feed.

Nice small place, friendly staff. While visiting the toilet, had a peep at the kitchen, could see the matriach checking the taste of a dish - very much like home in Singapore or Malaysia.
Char Kway Teow is a must try. Fried makarel in the Nasi Lemak was a pleasant surprise when you tried it as it did not look promising at 1st. Teh Tarik was great, although slightly expensive. Set lunches was well priced.
Strongly recommend a visit - you will find many young students as well as an Asian crowd, a testament to the good tasting food available here.

went there early on a saturday night. char kwey teow could be nice but was very oily, like the rest of the food. £27 for 2 main dishes, spring rolls, chicken satay (smallish and oily) + 1 small beer. not good value. service ok. not much atmosphere/buzz to the place. would not go back.

This is a must for Malaysian Food aficionados. Their Char Koay Teow is one of the best I have tasted, and this includes the best in Penang. Fried in an extremely hot wok to give it the flavour, with just enough moistness, nice big juicy, crunchy prawns and Lap cheong (Chinese sausages). And the koay teow was nice and soft.
The Nyonya curry tumis fish was the nicest I have ever had in London, with nice Bream Fish meat, subtle spicy curry . This is unlike some Thai curry where you are overwhelmed by the spices. A very nice accompaniment to their fragrant rice.
The kerabu vegetables (delicate fragrant Nyonya salad) complimented the curry tumis fish perfectly. And all on the special lunch menu of around £6.50. You cannot get a comparable lunch for 4 times this price at any London Malaysian Restaurant. Their cooking and fresh ingredients were the equivalent of a 3 Michelin star French cuisine applied to Malaysian food or perhaps I should say 3 Proton Stars.
Their Kueh ( Malaysian dessert "cakes") were very authentic and one of the nicest I have tasted in a very long time (and not just in UK).
Service was friendly and pitched just right. The decor was subtle and understated, but just about right (after all we do not want to pay a King's ransom just for the decor.) The music was the 50s and 40s, western type - very appropriate. I was grateful they did not blare out some Chinese opera music for an artificial ethnic ambience.
Will be going back to try their other dishes. As good if not better than the now defunct Nyonya Restaurant in Notting Hill (they were the chefs at that place formerly.).
