TimeOut

Guy Dimond - 4/6

Tuesday, March 24, 2009 - The menu's is no-fuss. Pork belly, although slow-roasted, isn't disintegrating in the way that some versions can be; this one's a solid block of prime pork, set on a sauce of creamed leeks, but with a moat of cider sauce and roasted apple on the side. Simply cooked fish is a strength of the kitchen: maybe pan-fried sardines as a starter, or a special of sea bass with some mediterranean vegetables. Good produce, simply prepared…For decent British grub at a fair price, Brill fits the bill.

Visited The Brill with my wife on a recent visit to London. The food was well cooked, the staff were friendly and the price was right. The one moan is a 12.5% discretionary service charge. I realise that you can turn this down, but why do it in the first place? That aside, we will be back!

What a charming little eaterie with a rather wonderful roof top bar!

Five of us arrived early enough in the evening to take advantage of the 2 for 1 offer on the presco and each of enjoyed steaks cooked as requested.

It is a simply establishment, with a very simple menu, but it was clean and the staff as charming as the place itself.

One word of warning - beware the door to the right as you enter the place.

Dos Hermanos

Dos Hermanos

Thursday, May 07, 2009 - The owners have obviously attended courses on the rudiments of modern British menu construction as all the key elements are there; Crab, ham hock, pork belly, duck and they too, like Alfred’s have set out to provide a casual environment for well priced food, no doubt inspired by the relocation of the hungry employees of The Guardian to the neighbourhood. Prices are set well with two courses for £13.50 and three for £16, which would make this a perfect place for a casual drop in supper if it were not for one small fact. The cooking is not very good.
