Friday, December 04, 2009 - The website talks cheerily about 'legendary pizza bases'. Really? Beyond ordinary, they're thin and soggy, with toppings requiring a daily salt allowance to make them taste of anything. Even nduja, the fabulously pungent, spreadable Calabrian sausage, doesn't lift mine from bland tedium. Maybe, with the demise of old trouper Dino's nearby, there's a gap in the local market for unremarkable cod-Italian food. Staff are sweet; otherwise, the best compliments I can dredge up are: serviceable, and not expensive for South Ken.

Popped in for lunch with the father in law. Great food - great service - value for money was excellent. Good Pizza thin base and just nice and relaxed. Highly recommend it.

Funny after the other reviews we tried it and were disappointed. The restaurant looks lovely and the decor is great. The service is good but the food was rubbish, we both had pizza and the base was tough and tasted a bit funny like the dough had been sitting in a plastic container for a while. Over priced taking that into consideration, will not be back.

We ate there twice during our recent visit to London. Rocca is perfect! Our family of 14 (ages 16 to 86) all had great meals and wonderful service. Lovely, clean, beautifully decorated restaurant with excellent variety, good wine and very fair prices for London. Located in a relatively residential neighborhood, safe to walk around in and close to the Gloucester Road Tube station. This is a wonderful place to spend your evening!

I live locally and this restaurant several times since its opening. Every time we went, the food was good, the service attentive, friendly but not overbearing and the atmosphere cheerful and relaxed. It is not an outstanding Italian, but so are not the prices, it is very reasonable priced, as several other people mentioned. If you want outstanding, go to Locanda Locatelli, but you have to pay for it through the nose.

This is a very decent local restaurant, with good pizzas (I like them thin and mine was not soggy), good pastas and a nice selection of salads. I like that this restaurant is not pretentious, you can just pop in from your walk in the park and have a good meal. We only had good experience there (for now), so I would recommned it for good Italian at good prices.

Im a little surprised by the review by the Metro writer

Shame really as Pizza East looks great but food is shocking. Rocca looks great and food is equal to that.

Life is not all about style over substance

Went to Rocca today for lunch - completely blown away

The starter of squid was sublime and far superior to the rubbery mess I had at Pizza East last week. Its amazing how some funky decor makes critics forget that it is the food should do the talking!

For main I had the Rocca Piccante pizza which was delicious. Spicy and sweet with a fantastic crisp base

The Chianti Riserva is a revalation and it does not break the bank. Brilliant

Not sure how all these reviews are positive about this restaurant. Went to Rocca on a Sunday and had never heard of it before, and were expecting really good food. We received a real mixture - we had to send the cheese platter back as £6.50 for a platter of 5 wafer thin slices of cheese was ridiculous. Squid was lovely.

Mains arrived and out of the four dishes, only one was good. The veal was not good - very bland and was not what we expected. Have had this before elsewhere and usually it's lovely, but unfortunately not on this occasion. Chicken escalope had a lovely breadcrumb coating but was also extremely bland! The lamb stew was lovely - could not fault it.

Unfortunately this experience didn't encourage us to try the dessert. The kind waiter did listen to our feedback and did give us the bottle of wine for free which is respectable. Shame no one asked us how the meal was while we were eating - they only asked at the end when we were finished.

I never like eating in decent restaurants in Kensington as your wallet is always a few kilos lighter on leaving the restaurant. This is the exception to the rule. Great, clean restaurant. Very attentive staff. Delicious selection of wines. Superbly presently food. And all at reasonable prices. A great choice if you're in the area and you don't want to spend too much on an authentic Italian meal.

Has lunch at Rocca di Papa yesterday( Sunday) and we were very favourably impressed. Great welcome, lovely decor, good service and, most importantly, really good food. Even better, the prices were very reasonable, especually considering the location. We hope it can keep up the good work and we will be returning soon!

we have been to this new italian in south ken a few times since it opened

its always been very good and the prices are even better

it all seems good quality food and the margerhita pizzas for the kids are 4.95 compared to £7 at some chain places where the kids say they are not as good

waiting staff are very friendly

cant quite believe it really. hope it stays as it is but the last we went it was very busy and we had to wait 10 minutes for a table.

they gave us some drinks on the outside tables while we waited

we the jones' would recommend this place
