No idea why some reviews are so negative! I've been here four times now. The buffet lunch is one of the best bargains on London with "eat as much as you can" being too tempting to resist. Healthy, home-style Keralan food with a nice range of uber-tasty veg dishes and one meat curry on offer, plus starters, chutneys, rice and salad. You can't really go wrong. Its a terrific bargain.
I've eaten there at dinner time. Its not a "curry house", so if you want balti or chicken tikka-masala, forget it. Go somewhere else. They serve south indian food, the portions are not enormous but for a relatively small sum of money you'll be well satisfied, The vegetable, and legume based dishes were delicious and fish-curry very tasty. The owners are charming, and the staff very friendly and happy to chat especially when you show an interest in their food.

Went to this restaurant yesterday evening. Restaurant busy and staff were friendly. Very, very dissapointed by the portion sizes of every dish ordered at rip off prices. Food was very authentic and tasty. Took guests who ordered papadoms which we never received - again each papadom was £1.50 (rip off price). Ordered basmati rice and the portion size was the size of my palm!!! Surely this restaurant owners don't need to reduce portion size so drastically? Profit margin on Indian food is at least 500% in this restaurant. Avial (Veg dish) was again palm sized, chicken fried had 4 pieces of chicken?!! and the chicken and lamb biryani will not fill a ten year old child!! Not sure if I will recommend it to others nor go back to this restaurant.....Totally dissapointed by the portion size at this restaurant. Left restaurant hungry and had to eat again later.

I took my family for a pre-theater dinner to Kerala Restaurant in Oxford Circus. We had their Set Express Dinner and a bottle of House wine .Polite, efficient staffs and exotic Indian food , inspite of the place being very busy.A very enjoyable experience.

Ate at the Kerala 28/10/09 and it was just okay. Asked if wanted Popadoms to start which we said yes to and when got bill found they were £1.50 each which was a bit of a rip off as only accompanied by two dips and some salad that was of limited quality. Portions are on the small side and there was 12.5% gratuity added to bill.

Having at last found a keralan restaurant in London we went for supper here on 2 October 2009 but were really dissapointed. The service was OK at best but the food was really poor quality. Starters of mini dosa and fish cakes were fairly palatable but the lamb and chicken in the main course dishes were so tough it was almost inedible. The restaurant is really dirty and nothing would entice us back. Not recommended.

Last thursday evening i had a wonderful evening at the Kerala Restaurant ,15 Great Castle Street near Oxford Circus. We had Mini Dosa and Fish Cakes to start, main course we had Kalan, Bananaflower Thoran,Konju Masala with Coconut rice and Parathas and finised the meal with Plantain Fritters and Masala Tea. The food and service was excellent..... the cost of the meal with a bottle of white wine was also very reasonable....

What a brilliant find! I don’t normally write reviews but I had to after eating at the Kerala.
Staff know their food and the kitchen definitely does. I spent 3 months in Kerala and so I’ve seen plenty of dosas (Large rice pancakes) and tilapias (type of fish found off the Keralan coast). The food was exactly what you get in Kerala and it is a family run restaurant who are originally from Kerala so there is an air of authenticity that you don’t get at many other south Indian restaurants.
All of the staff are from Kerala too so they know their food. if you don’t, then do ask as they are more than happy to explain or offer recommendations which is how I discovered the King Prawn Poori (which has to be tried...it’s delicious!).
At a time when it seems like chain restaurants (cough Masala Zone cough) are descending upon London with greater force and frequency, it’s lovely to eat at a family run establishment, it reminded me of Kerala which is the best recommendation I can make.
Mark my words, I will definitely be coming back.
