1/10; that is being generous because at least it was edible. Authentic Keralan/ authentic Indian food; NOT AT ALL!
My Chinese friends loved Keralan (Indian) food, so after my professor's recommendation I took them to this place near Oxford Circus station. We were all very disappointed with the food. They have tasted Keralan food before and said "how can they call this traditional Kerala food And charge extremely high price?" Well we just paid for it's location I said.
We paid £49 for 3 people at this place and for half the price we get traditional Keralan food at this 'Ananthapuri' restaurant 1 minute away from East ham tube station! I do not own this restaurant, for those wondering whether I am advertising!
The service was average, although at one point we waited over 10minutes for few things and had to order again.
People come here thinking it is traditional Indian food; When they realise that some of the food is made from pre-packaged instant boxes and not made authentically, would they return again? I hope not!
The fish cutlet, fish curry and chicken biriyani, paratha; none of it had Keralan taste, my mum is from Kerala. If she had come, she would have thrown a fit and refused to pay! The dosa, masala dosa and chutney was not authentic at all!
It is shocking to think that they have survived 21 years mocking Kerala food serving the tourists and the local workers! The only thing that was authentic other than the food was the inside atmosphere, the staff and some of the utensils; because even those were dented.
Again this experience correlates with the Veeraswami just further down Oxford road.
Indian restaurants in these locations can hire just any Tom, Dick and Harry in the kitchen to put instant packaged food in the microwave or oven and serve in 10-15 minutes to desperate non-Indian customers.

I took my family shopping in Oxford Street. They are from Malaysia, here on a Christmas holiday & craving for some authentic Indian food. I came across this restaurant & took them there only to be extremely disappointed by the quality of food, price of food and service.
I cannot agree with the remarks from other customers.
The buffet was limited in choice with only one meat dish where the chicken was not fresh. Dessert was a choice either fruits or hot indian pudding. We were told to recycle our plates when returning for subsequent helpings in the buffet. The indian pancakes (dosa) is overpriced & not up to my expectation.
I was disappointed with the service where the 'tall man' informed me (I had ordered ala carte & my dad ordered buffet) not to eat off my dad's bhaji!. It was not my intention to share the buffet but I feel its harmless to just have a taste.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I have been to other indian buffets in the city and this is by far the worst.

I am guju living in London and have an office in Oxford Circus, my parents live in Cochin and I was born and brought up there and I know the taste of malayalee kitchen. I have seen the adverse remarks made by a customer. I quite often take my staff down for lunch at the Kerala Restaurant, for the price at £6.95, five curries and rice and that too 'eat as much as you like'. I feel sorry for the tall man, who owns and runs the Kerala. He has been running that establishment for the last 21 years and is there every lunch time and evening and seems to know most of his customer by name. Pricewise, Foodwise and friendly service, please do not compare the Rasa to Kerala

4/10 for the food and 0/10 for the service - pls go to Rasa or some such other for a slightly better experience. This is clearly meant for tourists passing through, since no part of the experience is compelling enough to make you return. Had lunch here on a Saturday with my husband. Despite several empty tables in the front (brighter and slightly more spacious) section of the restaurant, we were first seated in a cramped corner, next to a wall in the poky back. The table wobbled quite a lot, and we asked to be be moved to another table. Instead, one of the waiters wedged himself under the table between our legs and tried to fix it! He couldn't, and we were grudgingly reseated. We ordered, and soon after, a family of 7 were directed to a table behind us. The seating arrangement meant they had to wedge their way past our table and a wall. Before we could get up to give them more space to arrange themselves, one of them had managed to upset the salt & pepper shakers, and a glass of water on our table. All this while, the waiters look on haplessly. We were- finally- moved to our third (and final) table in 20 minutes.
I am Indian, and familiar with the taste of 'authentic' Mallu food. I found the dishes barely passable - some clearly stale and microwaved before being served and the quantities microscopic for the price. The kitchen is quite close to the (really dirty) women's restroom - unfortunately I saw this only after our unsatisfying meal. I suppose the saving grace was they didn't put service tax on our bill. A real pity I ever ate here.

I have eaten at this restaurant many times over the years and am never disappointed. The food is magnificent, and I am shocked at some of the negative reviews I have read on this site. If you want a Chicken Tikka Masala stay at home and eat that - if you want authentic food, served by people who care go to Kerala.
Can't remember what it is called but the hot lentil dessert is something not tobe missed, worth noting that a portion is enough for us to share as it is so rich.
You get what you pay for, and here you will always have a marvellous experience.

Last week a friend and I discovered Kerala Restaurant while shopping in oxford street, and aimlessly wondering into upper Regent's street. We opted for the 'Eat as much you Like ' Buffet Lunch and eat it our heart's content.
It was an enjoyable experience and a great find. We shall certainly be going back there again......

This place is an absolute scam business. Myself and two friends went in there last night for some food. We were asked if we wanted poppodoms, which we duly ate, then to discover they were £1.50 each!!
The food was ok, but quite small portions, and the total bill came to a whopping £75 something,, until we insisted that most places offer poppodoms free and they reluctantly took some money off the money after saying "well, this is Oxford Circus", as if thats some sort of levy to be able to charge for these things.
Could be a lovely place- nice enough building and interior
Shame
