Excellent service & food. The owner is a lovely friendly individual - drinks on the house when he discovered a significant birthday in our group. We'll definitely be back.

We stumbled across this restaurant after a mad dash back to Oxford Street to try and find a bag my friend had left in a shop, amazingly we found it, in tact and where she'd put it down, and so we were in a fairly good mood. That may be why we had such a great dinner, but I also think the excellent authentic food, the swift professional service, and the reasonable bill helped too! Will definitely go back.

As lovers of Indian food and, with my partner being from the South himself, the name alone was enough to tempt us, despite the fact that we had read a review which said that the owner was surly and rude. Well, she was, but not, as far as we could see, to the punters. Only to her staff! This we found a bit distasteful & irritating but, since the staff were so friendly & helpful and, the food was soooooo yummy, we found ourselves, (rightly or wrongly), forgiving her! It has since become one of our regular haunts and we drag all our friends & family there too! (Who incidentally have all loved it)!!

I've been to the Kerala half a dozen times or so over the past 3- 4 years. My group has always had a good experience and hence has returned. However, after reading the very mixed reviews on this site I went last night with some trepidation.

I need not have worried. The food was excellent, no problem with service and as far as I could tell there were no issues for any of the other diners (some of which appeared regulars). We arrived at 6:45 and left at 10:15. This is a long time in a restaurant but we had plenty to talk about. The apmosphere was relaxed and we were not rushed at all - which is exactly what we wanted. Yet if we did want to attract attention there was no problem in doing so.

We had a wide selection of food from all 3 courses and a variety of drinks. All was fine. In fact it was better than fine - it was refreshingly different for Indian cuisine and all perfectly cooked and presented.

No doubt we'll go again, and that, after all, is the acid test.

The most horrible place I have been to in entire London. The owners are absolutely and blatantly rude!

I am a Malayalee living in London and having heard about this gem of a restaurant from a frind of mine I decided to take a few business partners there for lunch. The food and the ambience really did not disappoint. The home cooked food reminded me of my mother's cooking when I was a child, which really is the highest praise I can offer. The 'kumble appam' offered as a desert all wrapped up in leaves and steamed took my memories right back to Kerala. A truly wonderful culinary experience. Great food, great service...I will be back again.

Very rude owner - he told me 'I don't mind losing customer' in front of many others. What a ' ' service!

I went with two of my friends to the Kerala Restaurant at Oxford Circus having seen all the adverse comments, we were greeted very well taken our coats and seated in front of the Bar. We had Mussels, Fish Cake and Mini Masala Dosa as starter , the waiter suggested Shank of Lamb and Monk Fish both with stir fried Keralean Vegetables for main course, he also suggested to have a lemon rice and three porathas, he also suggested to have one nice bottle of Claret. We finished our meal with fresh Mango and Papaya followed by masala tea. We had an excellent meal with excellent Service. We also observed the customers who come to the establishment were called by their names by the staff. We wish you good luck and keep up the standards.

If you need to sample the authentic cuisine of Southern India in an elegant, modern restaurant - look no further! I was treated to a gastronomic experience that surpassed some of the best restaurants in London.

The atmosphere is inviting and the decor reminded me of a recent trip to Kerala. The staff are charming and unhurrying. The menu is impressive and reflects an exciting blend of tradition and innovation. The wine list is carefully chosen and reasonably priced. The standard of cooking is outstanding. The knowledgeable, attentive and friendly staff can provide excellent advice on the cuisine of their home land.

I love the coastal seafood dishes and the Syrian Christian specialities. You must try delicious masala dosa and the delicately flavoured appams. The erachi olithiathu and the meen and mango vevichathu are absolutely divine! How about a chemmin biryani (prawns cooked with basmati rice) and mixed vegetable curry with yoghurt and coconut? Prepare yourself for a meal to be remembered.........

Having just returned from holidaying in Kerala I was eager to sample the food again and The Kerala did not disappoint. I had the King Prawn Poori as my starter and it was absolutely exquisite, the prawns were not only massive but tasted brilliant. For my main course, I chose the meen and mango (a fish curry) with spinach and dhal and lemon rice. My friend chose the masala dosa (absolutely massive) with the chick peas (really tasty). The meal was brilliant, I think ordering a selection of dishes and sharing is a great way to taste it all and everything I tried was of superb quality. The waiters were on hand to help with our choice and attentive. I also found out that they are all native to Kerala which makes a big difference in terms of knowing good Keralan food.

The wine selection was very good. I choose the Chilean cabernet sauvignon and it went down well with the food. Having tried other Keralan restaurants, I really think you can’t beat the authenticity of The Kerala. It’s home cooked food done remarkably well. I can’t wait to go back again.
