NOT tasty. The fish is dry, the batter utterly flavourless. The chips old and tired. Don't even try to go for a sit down meal, because the takeaway customers always get served first, which could mean a verrrrrrrrrry long wait.

I hope this was a one off. I have been to this restaurant 4-5 times since it metamorphosed from the Trawlerman around 5 years ago.

In the past the food was always what you would expect from a slightly upmarket fish and chip shop. Good fish, good chips, acceptable prices (for Islington), friendly service and a cool (or in winter - cold) ambience.

The other aspects have stayed the same, but the food has gone from good to very poor.

It must be difficult to cook fish and chips badly - especially when you have equipment and a method which has been proven over the past half century at least,

The skate was adequate - despite batter that was almost a dentist's delight. The chips were the worst which I have ever eaten, almost fried hard to inedibility, once the carapace was cracked the reward being a tastless mush.

I overheard a couple at a neighbouring table complaining about the food before I ordered - hearing their accents I wrongly assumed that they were ignorant Yanks - they were not.

Sea Fish is a relatively new up market fish n chip shop most welcome in Islington, and is much improved on the shop that it took over. The service and food are all to a very acceptable standard, if only a little expensive to eat in, though you can BYO. I was a little unhappy with my counter service take away as they not put your ready to go fish n chips in a paper bag, by the time you get home all the food is damp and soggy !!! not the way i like to eat mine ........
