Thursday, July 30, 2009 - As the date pointed out there's not much 'Coast' about a wild mushroom risotto or a chicken and duck liver parfait. Maybe they worried about depleting the oceans. They'd scoured them diligently for my standout glass of tiger prawns with aioli, sensational specimens with a fresh, meaty bite. A fish soup was another winner: clearly home-made, it was unusually creamy and delicious mopped up with warm, crusty bread...With no fresh fruit option, we opted for ice cream, and were delighted by a selection of some of the most delicious home-made ice cream we'd recently sampled.

Friday, July 17, 2009 - The future of the British seafood restaurant may look a lot like Coast. Fish conspicuously absent from the menu are the premium, expensive species that were once the centrepiece of any good fish restaurant. 'We're trying to go down the sustainable route,' founder David Upton told me...we chose the sardines, splayed, deboned and grilled, served with pesto and microgreens; a good starter. Information about the environmental consequences of eating tiger prawns is complex and conflicting, but what I can tell you for certain is that served with aioli, the plump ones served here tasted of ocean, with an appealing firm bite.

Booked a table at Coast Dining for St Valentine's Day and turned up to find no reserved table available. We were shown to a shared table area which was in a very cold area. The staff could not cope very well with all the customers demands. When the main meal was served we had no crockery for over 15 mintues despite us asking for plates.. The experience was not up to my expected standard and I would never recomend this restaurant.

I never get around to reviewing things but this time I really felt motivated to make an effort - we've been looking for a great local restaurant ever since we moved to Camden 6 months ago and we've finally found one we could wholeheartedly recommend. I really loved everything about Coast. The food was absolutely excellent and the ambience and service were great too with the owner being particularly friendly. Overall it was a fantastic experience that succeeded in bringing a bit of Cornwall to Camden.

I had oysters and the fantastic catch of the day, which was linguine with scallops and lobster, and my other half had a really really excellent soft shell crab tempura with chilli jam - hugely recommended by both of us - and a light and tasty fish pie. Will definitely return and bring friends.

I've never gone online to write a restaurant review before, but at Coast on Saturday we had the best meal we've had in ages, so I thought I should share the fact!

We had the 3 courses for £15 menu, which was an unbelievable bargain - between us we had superb gravadlax and whitebait, REALLY great smoked mackerel salad, excellent fishcakes, and grey mullet in an unbelievably tasty lentil broth.

Service was super attentive though never pushy, there was a very good crisp sauvignon for just £16 a bottle, and they did all the little things right like giving us (and regularly replenishing) tap water without us having to ask.

A terrific chance drop-in on the way back from Regents Park. We're going to become regulars!

Dos Hermanos

Dos Hermanos

Friday, July 10, 2009 - Coast is a newish restaurant which promises to bring a taste of the seaside, Cornwall in this case to the grotty environs of NW1...Fish Soup tasted mostly of Fennel and very little of fish. The accompanying Rouille was underpowered and too polite. Like the Fish Cake these were dishes that would turn up at your average credit crunch dinner party...By the time we'd settled up and left the place was filling up with groups of happy locals. So obviously Coast is fulfilling some gap in the local restaurant market.
