Interesting southern-India vegetarian dishes at low prices. We had uthappam (kind of flat bread incorporating vegetables, coming with some souces), special thali (rice with 3 different sauces) coming with a paratha (crispy flat bread with vegetable fillings) which was very tasty. For dessert we had Gulab Juman (sweet dumplings in syrup) and Kerala Delight (kind of crepe filled with fruits and a sauce). The place is small and a bit cramped but overall the atmosphere was ok. We will go again.

Phoned in the morning to try and book for a large party. When I phoned, I was told tersely "Call back after 12" and the person I was speaking to hung up on me! How rude! It certainly puts me off taking my custom there in future.
Had he waited two more seconds before hanging up he would have found that I wanted to book for 12pm, so calling back after that time was not an option.

One of the original eat-all-you-want lunchtime buffets. Great for veggies who are fed up with so little choice. They have recently included a good range of salads as well as the usual four or five curries, naan bread, appetisers, rice, chutneys etc. They also serve fruit for afters (for the health concious) or Gulaab Jamun (v.sweet dough balls) with rice pudding (for those with an irresistable sweet tooth!) Service not really an issue as is the nature of eat-all-you-want buffets.

Where can you get such excellent vegetarian food for so little? Chutney's of course. Extensive buffet selection all you can eat and only £5.95 per person(lunch)-an absolute bargain in central London. I've been coming here for years and found it consistantly good, try the organic red wine at only £8.95 a bottle it's great value. Deservedly has regular clientelle that eat here regularly.

I've been to Chutneys many time in the past but not for a few years now. I was keen to introduce my teenage son to the fantastic food and great atmosphere. I wish I had kept the restaurant as a memory. The food was ok but not as great as it has been in the past. The whole place felt a little tired and those toilets certainly need a drastic upgrade.
The waiter that served us was clearly not interested in helping us - a simple query about what dish would be relatively mild and a good choice for my son was met with a suggestion that he had the dahl and that was that!
I won't be returning...
