The Fence

I used to really enjoy popping into the fence to make the most of their terrace. Having been in a few times this week to enjoy a drink in the sunshine, we went along today only to be told in no uncertain manner that people are only allowed to sit outside if they are having a "full meal". A rule which evidently had been introduced in the last 24 hours. We were contemplating ordering puddings to check out what the food was like, but as this would not have resulted in a big enough spend per head, we were told to move inside. I guess they would rather the seats remain empty. I find this policy somewhat bizzare as the area is advertised as the smokers terrace in the winter but in the summer smokers who are not eating must go inside (where they can't smoke!). We were not the only table forced to move and the tables remained empty for the rest of the time we stayed in the Fence. Its a shame really as we thought the menu looked ok and were planning to go for a "full meal" another time, but we will be taking our custom elsewhere now.
