Hi Sushi Izakaya is small and cramped and not very clean unfortunately - a bad sign for a sushi restaurant. They have a Tasting Menu at £15 per head with unlimited cold sushi (only 5 portions at a time and a £5 charge for any wastage!) and a few hot items. And you only get an hour and a half! The sushi is ok - but very limited choice - but the hot items are dripping with oil and they are extremely stingy with their portions. The hot items can only be ordered once and their idea of a portion of fried squid for 2 people is 2 pieces! They then impose a compulsory service charge of 10% per person on the bill. You have to pay it whether you like their (low average) service or not! That tantamounts to cheating the customer. All in all an avoidable experience!

Worst eating experience ever!! My partner and i ate here in April 2011, we just wanted something very quick to eat before going to a show. My partner ordered the buffet option (which was basically sushi and they bring it to you so it isnt as if you can keep having as much as you like), i ordered a noodle dish on the menu. We were told that we couldnt share the buffet food, which was not a problem.
However, when the food arrived, all they did was to watch us eat it, it was the most uncomfortable eating experience i have ever had, we couldnt even eat the food with someone constantly walking past and watching us eat.
There was a service charge on the bill, which i said i wished not to pay, but i had to, i explained i was not happy and the waitress just laughed. Upon leaving i asked for the manager and explained how disgusted i was, she did not even apologise, even when i said no one has even apologised, she still didnt, she just said oh right. Shocking i would never recommend this place to anyone.

Having had a pleasant meal here once before I was looking forward to my visit, sadly the food and service did not match expectations. The staff were nice enough but made a real hash of the order resulting in having to send back some of the nigiri three times as it was not what we ordered. Whilst the sashimi was average the sushi was below par, akin to pre-made packaged version available for half the price elsewhere. Particularly poor was the soft shell crab maki, avoid at all costs! We decided to settle up and continue our meal elsewhere. For this enchanted evening we were charged seventy quid and to add insult to injury after accepting the standard service charge within the bill was then passed the machine on the gratuity screen for an extra tip attempt!
Save your money and go elsewhere, very poor

Today, I went there with my girlfriend. This is for valentine dinner but this restaurant make us very dissapointed. We ordered buffet which normally price is 14.8 £ but they increase the price to 16.8 £ only for this day. The food was served very slow around 30 mins per portion and they give us only 1.30 hours. Absolutely rubbish restaurant and when the time is up they come to tell us someone who book the table after us is coming. Please leave now. I haven't finish my water yet. This is so rude. Never seen something like this before. And when we left restaurant, we didn´t see someone come yet and still have free table. I strongly never recommend anyone to go this restaurant.

Location: Easy to find, nice that it's slightly tucked away from the main piazza (which is crawling with tourists at the moment). Right opposite the Theatre Royal and only a short walk from the tube station, which is a bonus when your girlfriend insists on platform heels.
Food: Menu is huge, hard to choose, but everything we had was good. Not wow, but tasty, fresh and reasonably priced. You rarely get all three in that area. Sake good, sushi excellent. Worth trying dessert too.
Service: Very sweet and efficient, maybe because they just opened. Hopefully it will stay this way. Not intrusive though.
Conclusion: Would recommend if you're in the area. Would certainly go again especially seeing as the prices are good value.
