Finally, I was excited to head to Mama Pho which used to be the old site of Cafe East. Within days of being told this, I was too excited to wait and so I roped in Ms. Black to come with me on a random evening. We arrived to a small unassuming corner eatery and was greeted by a really friendly waitress. She gave us the menu and we started the discussing what we were going to order.
We both decided to get the pho £6.50 and the Banh Xeo £7.
The Banh Xeo is delicious. The batter is light, crispy and crunchy, I think easily the best that I've had in London. We were so enamoured that we ate it by itself and forgot about the lettuce wrapping till halfway through.
With happy smiles on our faces, the two friendly waitresses who works there came with our pho next. I was salivating and couldn't wait to dig in. The broth was good with the version from Cafe East only edging it to be better as this one lacked that slight depth to round out the flavour and balance.
We left paying £10 each for our meal, excellent value I say.

We went to Mama Pho last night having read all the reviews on this site. We were not disappointed we made the effort to go and all the reviews are spot on. This is a Cafe, and is a little basic inside, but do not let that take away from the quality of the food and the service. I would say the freshness of the ingredients are what struck me the most about the food. The menu is limited but has many Vietnamese favourites on there (It also has pictures which I think is good as people don't seem as well informed on Vietnamese dishes as they are with Chinese or Indian). I would recommend Mama Pho to anyone looking for fresh, tasty, cheap and authentic Vietnamese food.

This is one of Deptford's best kept secrets. This place serves amazing Vietnamese food and very authentic and no or little msg. The Pho is the best I have had in London and the Bahn Cuon is to die for. There is not much to choose on the menu, however, its not quantity that counts it is the quality and this place is quality. The only danger is that i am telling you about this place as it is a small place and the more people that i know the more crowded its going to be and longer i will have to wait to get a table!!. However, this place is worth the praise it gets and we should support places like this as good restaurant food are hard hard to come by especially when it comes to authenticity and reasonably priced.

It's the best Vietnamese restaurant in London so far I have tried. Even better than most I have tried in the far east! Definitely worth a try

Sometimes you just want a quick & tasty bite to eat with no fuss. So I was happy to have Mama Pho recommended to me by the oriental supermarket in Deptford & I'm so glad that I tried it.
It's a simple, no frills cafe with a short but very specialist menu. This means that what they do, they do very well. My beef Pho was delicious. It's all about the flavours (especially the soup stock), which it has in bucket loads. Very fresh & great value too.
The staff were very smily & friendly.
I will be back for more very, very soon.

there's not exactly much good eating in this area so i appreciate places like Mama Pho so much. i was a regular when it was Cafe East and totally panicked when it closed. i thought 'oh no where am i going to get my pho fix now!', it's a long way to kingsland road you know! but thankfully, Mama Pho is basically the same if not better and they still do all my favourites. ok it's a bit basic but it is essentially a cafe and is quite cheap for such fresh viet flavours. highly recommended, especially for vietnamese craving home-style food!
