I actually quite liked Hi Sushi, but I do agree that it's expensive.
The decor is interesting in that the seats are set into the floor; the tables are more or less at floor level and each table sits in its own 'well'. So when you're sitting down, your head is about level with the ankles of people walking around. At first this made me feel a bit vulnerable, but I liked the uniqueness of it.
The food is actually okay, I find. The problem is that some of the portions are a bit small. I know this is sushi, but I wouldn't mind if certain items were a bit cheaper.
Service was friendly, polite but tended to be on the slow side.
Unfortunately I just thought the bill was a bit high for the package. I just had the feeling I didn't get much bang for my buck here. It's a shame. I'd come back for the odd revisit, but there is competition in the area and that makes a return less likely.
I hope they survive, however. The only thing I would improve about this restaurant is the price.

The rather long-winded but helpful review posted last December, it would seem from my very recent visit to this restaurant, still rings true in most part.
Although I don't have complaints regarding foul smells emerging from the toilets (although the plastic entrance really is nestled between diners), I pretty much agree with the other points raised; poor non-attentive service after our set-meal miso soups arrived, cold ramen soup, crispy but overly oily tempura, meals arriving at random rather than in the order intended (starters-mains) etc etc.
Take the given advice, visit next door, or even better for tasty and fantastic value authentic Japanese-inn fare, head to EAT TOKYO just round the corner.

The food at Hi Sushi is good. We love going here- it is fresh and filling (the all you can eat buffet for 14.95 is a great deal).
The only negative to say is the fact that- and I absolutely detest this- service charge is automatically added to the bill. Okay 10% might no sound much but sometimes you dont want to pay £10-20 or WHATEVER for service. If you as a customer pay less than the "charged for" service charge the staff essentially have a go at you- extremely annoying as a customer and I find it quite rude and disrespectful. It is such an unpleasant way to end a lovely meal, an unnecessary argument with the waiting staff.
PLEASE do not automatically charge service charge. It is not meant to happen, it is not compulsory so dont put it there and happy customers will pay 10-20% service themselves if it is deserving.
Nevertheless, always tasty, filling sushi and (during dining/meal itself) nice staff.
