Charmaine Mok - 3/5
Wednesday, August 12, 2009 - The Vietnamese baguette (banh mi) is quickly becoming one of London's trendiest imports. At this new cafe (which also doubles as an independent art gallery), the baguettes (white or brown) are baked in-house and filled with the requisite own-made pate, pickled carrots and oriental radish, roasted meats, fresh chillies, coriander and a drizzle of special 'pork sauce'. There are also spring rolls and various rice dishes to choose from, while the Vietnamese coffee is from the esteemed Ca Phe VN.

okay, i've never been to Vietnam and i've only eaten bahn mi a few times, but i really like the roast chicken and veggie versions they do here. there are some noodle and rice dishes but i think the snack food is the best choice. spring rolls (fried til crispy) and summer rolls (not fried) are both really nice, very fresh.
its nice to be able to get proper Viet coffee in SE1 too! staff seem to genuinely care what people think so i hope they do well. if you live nearby, give it a try.

An American In London
Sunday, August 23, 2009 - The cafe is small and pretty. In keeping with the neighborhood, it's simple, but much more upscale than Banzi in Surrey Quays...the banh mi fillings were great: *tons* of pickled carrots and daikon; superb creamy pate with a strong offal flavor that held its own; good chili kick; and pork slices that still had bits of meaty aspic clinging to them. But can you guess what was wrong? Indeed, it was the bread. Sure, it was crispy. But it was also *thick*. And there was butter slathered on it.
