Went here the other week as our intended destination was closed. Unfortunately we won't be returning.
Did not enjoy the atmosphere as there was no music and it just seemed far too quiet. It was a week night and there was only 1 other table occupied. The waiter was always walking around and looking/checking on us so this combination did not relax me. The staff were very attentive and were very interested in how the meal was going. However it was too much, they didn't connect at all with us and it seemed very put on.
We both did not really enjoy the food. We had Pappadoms with Chutneys to start and maybe we got Pappadavadai (Pappadoms 'with a difference') instead. The chutneys (a selection of 6) were nice and different but the Pappadoms all in different shapes and colours did not taste of anyhting. And at a cost of £5.75 I expected better.
I had Arachu Varatha Meen for my main. Tilapia covered in an unattractice sauce that unfortunately smothered the fish rather then complimented it. My partner had Nadan Kozhy Curry, a chicken curry. We ate both meals but just did enjoy the taste. They were different to Indian meals we have had before and maybe it was just that we were not used to the style. But we are both not fussy and like to try different things.
We wanted to like the food but just didn't that much. At the end of the meal we were asked twice if we wanted dessert and twice by the same waiter if we liked the food. Maybe not worth mentioning but still a bit odd to be asked the same question a few seconds later....maybe I was not convincing when I said I enjoyed it?

I have been to Rasa Samudra on Charlotte Street and loved it, although I found it a bit pricey, so was very excited when I saw this branch open up in Leytonstone, 5 minutes walk from my house! In addition it is about a third of the price of the central London branch.
They serve meat, fish and veg dishes so something for everyone. We shared deep fried aubergine and tomato churney, and kingfish fried in spices with coconut chutney, for starters, and the fish especially was amazingly tasty. We then shared a chicken curry and a prawn coconut curry and they were both delicious, especially with the lemon rice. A huge cut above your bog standrad curry place.
Downside was we had to wait about 45 minutes after our main for our puddings and the bill, and there was a service charge added too. We agreed the food was wonderful but it wasn't a perfect meal, however we would go back and probably forgo the pudding.

used to love rasa when i lived in stoke newington as a student so was delighted when this new place opened up close to home.
they still do the lovely dosas you find in the other branches but the menu here has some unusual dishes from central kerala that i've never seen in london before. After reading the timeout review, i tried the erachi olathiyathu which is like stir fried lamb with fresh coconut and lots of ginger and chilli. so delicious and fresh, would highly recommend.
there were lots of veg dishes (great for my veggie boyf) and fish like tilapia which is so under rated in the uk. we mopped everything up with appams and left feeling very full indeed! great to have a Rasa within walking distance, will be back!

Rasa Mudra is a very welcome addition to the restaurant scene in East End. We thought that our meal was one of the best Indian meals we have had in London and we could not fault the service and the attentiveness of the staff.
We started with the excellent poppadom and snack selection with the pickles and chutneys, followed by the Nadan Kochy Curry, Prawn Coconut Curry and we opted to have the masala fish fry (supposed to be the starter) with the main couser with coconut rice and appams , all of which were delicious. Our desserts were Payasam and Banana Dosa , both of which were also very good.
Having been to the parent resturant in Stoke Newington several times over the years we still found the different menu to be equally enjoyable and look forward to visiting the restaurant again.
